A design is being prepared for traffic calming measures at a Ballina 'blind-spot',
Fine Gael Cllr Marie-Therese Duffy raised the issue at December's meeting of the Ballina Municipal District when she called on Mayo County Council to install traffic calming measures, including kerb build-out, at the junction of Castlecourt estate and Belleek Road.
In a written response, area engineer Orla Bourke told the meeting that a design and cost estimate will be prepared for the works, which will qualify for so-called Notice of Motion (NOM) funding. She advised that if councillors wish to progress with the proposal, they may allocate NOM funding when government grants are announced in 2026.
Cllr Duffy welcomed the engineer's update and said she hoped to see progress on the project next year.
"This is a real blind-spot that needs these traffic calming measures and I'm looking forward to seeing the design and cost estimate completed on this," the councillor remarked.
