Councillor wants to see progress on extended Ballina sewerage scheme

Cllr Seamus Weir has called on Mayo County Council to seek an extended sewerage scheme in the Rehins, Ballynaraha and Cloonturk area of Ballina
Mayo County Council is to write to Uisce Eireann regarding an extended sewerage scheme in Ballina.
Independent Cllr Seamus Weir submitted a notice of motion at a recent meeting of the Ballina Municipal District calling on the local authority to formally write to Uisce Eireann for the scheme in the Rehins, Ballynaraha and Cloonturk areas.
“There are over 50 residential homes, two commercial businesses and Rehins National School with over 200 children in attendance in this area,” explained Cllr Weir.
The Knockmore councillor told the meeting he had initially raised this proposed project back in 2013.
“An expression of interest was made by all that they would join the scheme. A form was signed and forwarded to the council.
“This scheme would be totally viable and there is a great interest in getting this done. I think it is time to get this moving and for the council to get behind and support this,” said Cllr Weir.
Head of the Municipal District Declan Turnbull said the county council would write to Uisce Eireann in a bid to progress the proposed scheme.
