Councillor proposes Camino Festival Weekend for Mayo

A Mayo councillor has proposed a new festival for the county in the form of a Camino Festival Weekend, harnessing walking trails and routes such as the Great Western Greenway and the Foxford Way to "bring people from all over the world to sample everything that is positive about Mayo".

Cllr Neil Cruise's proposal was supported by council members and management at last week's meeting with Director of Services Joanne Grehan stating: “We could look at it under the new tourism and outdoor recreation strategy. Earlier this year we launched the Ireland West Camino from Rathcroaghan into Knock and through the Togher Phadraig way so it is something we would love to consider as a festival.”
