Councillor highlights 'dangerous' Ballina street
Cllr Annie May Reape
Emmet Street in Ballina is the "most dangerous street" and going down it "is like trying to cross Fifth Avenue", according to a local councillor.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Annie May Reape made her comments at the recent meeting of Mayo County Council's Roads Strategic Policy Committee, which she chairs. She described the area at McGowan’s Funeral Home as "the most dangerous street"
"There are two lanes and pedestrians crossing from both directions," she explained.
"We need ramps to slow traffic down there and have also asked for speed vans to monitor the area. I don’t know how there aren’t any more accidents there. We bring thus up at every municipal district meeting. It’s the one road out of Ballina to get to the Cathedral, to Bonniconlon, to Tubbercurry and onwards and is extremely busy.”
With another new year beginning, Cllr Reape appealed to council management to put some traffic calming measures in place in the area as soon as possible.
