Council to consider taking in charge of "very high standard" local road

A local councillor has asked Mayo County Council to take the extension of a south Mayo road in charge following major upgrade works.

Cllr Michael Burke submitted a notice of motion to last week’s meeting of the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District asking the L56632 road extension be taken in charge.

The approximately 80m extension of the local road, located off the N84 at Kill, Shrule, was upgraded in 2025 by LIS funding “to very high standard,” according to Cllr Burke.

In a written reply, Senior Roads Engineer John O’Malley said the Council would consider this request and would furnish a report in due course.

Head of the MD Padraig Flanagan said it was the Council’s intention to produce a list of roads for taking in charge in the coming weeks.
