Council sympathy on passing of young Ballina man

Richard Loftus, Foxford Road, Ballina
Councillors in Ballina have extended sympathy to the family of the late Richard Loftus, from Ballina, who died recently after a courageous battle with illness. He passed away on his 20th birthday.
At last week’s municipal district meeting, Cllr Michael Loftus tendered his condolences to the family and to John Duffy and Mary Loftus, Richard's grandparents, who he said were extremely important to the young man.
Cllr John O’Hara said it was a very sad funeral and that the death of a young person is something everyone hates to hear about, as he extended sympathy to Richard's parents Deirdre and Marc and the whole extended family.
Cllr Annie May Reape joined in the tributes, saying: “This was a young man in the prime of his life, it is tragic, there are no words. I would just like to offer my sympathy to his parents, grandparents and the extended Loftus and Duffy family.”
Cathaoirleach Cllr Jarlath Munnelly said it was devastating for the family to lose someone at such a young age while Cllr Joe Faughnan also extended sympathy.
