Connolly is keen to 'keep delivering' for South Sligo

Cllr Martin Connolly is running for re-election to Sligo Co Council.
Cllr Martin Connolly said he wants to continue delivering key projects that are in the pipeline in Tubbercurry if he is re-elected to Sligo County Council in June.
Cllr Connolly is entering his second election race in the Ballymote-Tubbercurry having been elected at the first time of asking in 2019. The Fine Gael councillor was elected following the tenth and final count during the last local elections. Cllr Connolly is joined on the Fine Gael ticket in this constituency by fellow councillors Gerard Mullaney and Dara Mulvey as well as first-time candidate Patrick Cleary. Seven seats are up for grabs in this electoral area.
Reflecting on his first term on the council, Cllr Connolly said he has settled in nicely to the role of county councillor.
“It took me a while to settle into it but once I got to grips with how things work and how to deal with things as they came up and what Department to go to about them, I settled in grand,” he said.
“Covid-19 upset the operational nature of things, we were dealing with everything through phone calls and emails. We used to have all of our council meetings online, but thanks be to God, things have settled down now.”
Cllr Connolly highlighted a number of ongoing projects in Tubbercurry that he wants to continue to push forward should he be re-elected.
“One of my first motions was to ask the Office of Public Works to purchase a former government building for a new Garda Barracks in Tubbercurry.
“There were also a few issues with ownership in the development of our new Primary Care Centre, we have all of them ironed out and now we have planning permission.
“Then we were lucky to be named the Sligo town receiving the Town Centre First Plan. It will redevelop our Square but the overall project is a lot bigger than that. The Town Centre team purchased land for development and now we own it. The possibilities are endless and it is a substantial site.
“I would love to be there to continue to push on these issues and these projects in the pipeline,” he said.
Cllr Connolly is appealing to his constituents to give him the opportunity to continue to deliver for the wider area, and deliver vital projects for areas such as Curry, Tourlestrane and Aclare.
“I have delivered for this area in the past five years and the evidence is there that I have done that.
“If I am supported on June 7, I will continue to deliver for my area,” he added.
