Car-park upgrade 'needed' in North Mayo village

The matter was discussed at a meeting of Ballina Municipal District.

Councillors in Ballina Muncipal District have voiced their support for an upgrade of a church car-park in a local village.

Cllr Jarlath Munnelly proposed at last week's meeting that Mayo County Council seek funding to upgrade the car-park near Cooneal Church. He said the area had not benefitted from funding for large-scale projects in recent years and he was seeking the support of his fellow councillors to help the church obtain funding through CLÁR or a similar scheme.

Cllr John O’Hara seconded and welcomed the proposal.

“Cooneal is out on its own in the countryside and it needs a good car-park,” he said.

Head of the Municipal District Declan Turnbull said that the Catholic Church owns the car park and would need to submit a funding application.
