Calls for traffic lights at notorious bottleneck

Mayo County Council has been urged to install lights at the busy junction.
Castlebar councillors are again imploring Mayo County Council to install traffic lights at a notorious bottleneck in the town.
The Gallows Hill junction near the Caslebar Primary School Campus has been a traffic blackspot for years. It’s a busy intersection for school traffic as well as access to the town centre.
“We’re going to get hockeyed on the doorsteps about it,” said Cllr Ger Deere.
He said in the region 100 additional homes are going to be built in the Rathbawn and Ballinaglough areas which will lead to further traffic congestion.
“What’s the problem with traffic lights? This is going on for years now."
