Calls for more signage at Ballina school

Cllr Mark Duffy has highlighted the need for additional signage at St Michael's School.
A councillor has asked that a traffic calming sign be erected at St Michael’s School on Church Road in Ballina to improve child safety in the area.
Independent Cllr Mark Duffy told last week's municipal district meeting that the additional sign and other traffic calming measures are urgently needed. He asked local authority staff if there had been any progress about the replacement of signage near the school and if a funding application needed to be submitted.
The council's senior engineer in the district Orla Bourke said the signage has not been replaced yet.
“We have had the line marker back in town but not the full team so we are waiting for that but it will be extensive work,” she added.
Fine Gael Councillor John O’Hara seconded the motion.
