Ballina native to lead NYC Parade today

Maggie Timoney, a native of Ballina and CEO of Heineken USA will lead today's New York City St Patrick's Day Parade

Ballina native Maggie Timoney is set to lead today’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City.

Ms Timoney is one of only five females to serve as Grand Marshall in the Parade’s 262-year history to lead what is the world’s largest and oldest St Patrick’s Day Parade.

She will lead some 250,000 St Patrick’s Day marchers up Fifth Avenue in front of about 2,000,000 spectators today. The Parade begins at 3pm Ireland time today.

Ms Timoney is the first female President & CEO of HEINEKEN USA based in White Plains, New York. Maggie is an alumnus of Iona University in New Rochelle, New York where she played basketball and earned two degrees.

Throughout her career, she blazed a trail in the traditionally male-dominated beer industry, and today, is the first woman to serve as chief executive of a major beer company in the United States.

Originally from Ballina, she now lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.
