A local councillor has urged the Ballina Municipal District to reserve space for a maritime museum at the Quay.
Cllr Marie-Therese Duffy told the recent municipal district meeting that representations had been made about this project to the municipal district previously and it was important to keep it in mind and on the agenda.
“There is a wealth of our history there to safeguard and I felt it was important to raise again ahead of any enhancements,” she said.
Head of the district Declan Turnbull said a design team is currently working on a proposal for the redevelopment of the Quay and he expectesa plan to come before councillors for approval in the near future.
Exploring the development potential of the Ballina Harbour/Quay area in terms of marine-related tourism and extensive marine resources has been outlined as a tourism objective in the Ballina Local Area Plan 2024-2030.
