Ambitious plans for Mayo village pub
The are ambitious plans for the former public house.
There are plans to turn a former Mayo pub into a residential development and cafe.
Planning permission has been sought to transform the Village Inn in Partry into eight two-bedroom houses and a cafe.
The Village Inn, established in the late 1950s, had most recently been trading as a pub and restaurant before closing a number of years ago.
It is planned to house part of the cafe inside the building’s traditional thatched cottage, which would be re-thatched by a specialist contractor.
Toilet facilities and and a new porch are also included in the plans.
The applicants are seeking to construct eight two-bedroom two-storey dwellings, an access road, parking, a new wastewater treatment unit and percolation area.
The former pub storage and office area is to be demolished as part of the development.
Mayo County Council is expected to make a decision on the application by September 28.
The property is located along the N84 between Castlebar and Ballinrobe. A mural of Monsignor James Horan, who grew up in the village, adorns the premises.
The Village Inn first opened in Partry in 1958. The building began its life as a small pub with a local grocer next door and a cottage attached.
