Aghamore GAA pays tribute to late club president Tom Freeman

The late Tom Freeman, Aghamore.

The east Mayo and wider GAA community across the county is in mourning following the passing of Aghamore GAA club president Tom (Grey) Freeman of Ballinacostelloe, Aghamore.

He died peacefully on Tuesday at Mayo University Hospital.

Tom was an integral part of the club holding various positions on the club executive down through the years including chairman. He was also part of the management team when Aghamore won the senior title in 1977.

Tom managed all Aghamore’s underage teams down through the years and was the foundation for so many players to develop and represent Aghamore adult teams and the Mayo senior team.

He was also a staunch Mayo supporter and very rarely missed a Mayo senior match and took great pride in watching Mayo play in Croke Park.

In his later years, Tom's interest and love of Aghamore GAA Club never wavered and you would regularly see him at the club’s GAA pitch every time the red and white jerseys took to the field.

In a statement, Aghamore GAA said “the club has lost one of our true greats, a foundation of our Club, a gentleman of the GAA.

“May he rest in peace.”

Predeceased by his parents Tom and Annie Freeman, Tom will be sadly missed by his sister Mai Higgins (Kiltimagh), brothers Chris Freeman (Kiltimagh) and Joe Freeman (Leixlip), brother-in-law Mick Higgins, sisters-in-law Mary and Margaret Freeman, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing at the Marian Funeral Home, Knock this evening (Thursday) from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock. Funeral arriving to St. Joseph’s Church, Aghamore on Friday morning for Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in the Aghamore Cemetery.
