New council building for Mayo town
Cllr Richard Finn welcomed the proposal.
A new building for outdoor staff at Mayo County Council’s Ballinasmalla Depot, at Castlegar, Claremorris, has been given the green light.
Head of Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District Padraig Flanagan told councillors at last week's monthly meeting that existing facilities for outdoor staff are very basic.
Cllr Richard Finn supported the proposal, saying: “This will help bring us into the modern age. Staff have not had a proper base up to this and the new facilities will mean they can come and go and have all the services there that people in this modern age want.”
Cllr Finn added that Claremorris is in dire need of the development, which will be a great addition to the town as well as the council.
“It will enhance existing facilities which are dated and make it more environmentally friendly and also take some Mayo County Council traffic from the town. We must make life a bit easier for our working and outdoor staff. There have been no objections raised and this will bring all the machinery and rolling stock and materials together with the staff facilities, making it a significant milestone for this municipal district.”
Patsy O’Brien seconded the proposal and it was approved by all members.
