Mount Falcon hosts Christmas edition of popular music show

Paul Brady will perform in the Geantrai Christmas special from Mount Falcon Estate in Ballina on Christmas Day.

This Christmas, TG4 marks almost 30 years since the launch of the landmark Geantraí, the much-loved Irish music series that has brought some of the finest traditional music song and sessions to Irish viewing audiences down through the decades.

To celebrate this milestone year and a milestone Season 20 of this much-loved series, the Geantraí Christmas Special 2025 has been filmed in the stunning surroundings of Mount Falcon Estate in Ballina, and brings together an exceptional lineup of artists, including the legendary Paul Brady.

Paul is one of Ireland’s most iconic and influential singer-songwriters, whose career has spanned more than five decades and crossed the boundaries between folk, traditional, and contemporary music. Born in Strabane, Co Tyrone, Paul first made his mark on the Irish folk scene in the 1970s with legendary groups, Planxty, The Johnstons and Andy Irvine and Paul Brady.

His evolution as a solo artist in the 1980s and beyond saw him craft a string of acclaimed albums featuring his own compositions, including Hard Station, True for You, and Back to the Centre. His songwriting - emotional, lyrical, and deeply human - has been covered by artists such as Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, and Mary Black. With a voice that combines power and vulnerability, and a career that bridges tradition and innovation, Paul remains a towering figure in Irish music.

On Geantraí, Paul brings his unmistakable voice and presence to an intimate setting, performing his definitive interpretations of traditional songs Arthur McBride and The Lakes of Pontchartrain.

Other performers include the powerhouse that is Breanndán O’Beaglaoich and the much-loved Tommy Fleming to the brightest new voices in traditional and folk music - Gearóid McCarthy, Alannah Thornburgh. Aileen Bourke, The Brennan Sisters, Ciaran Mulderrig and Fergal Scahill who all deliver outstanding performances to fill a programme full of seasonal joy and reflection. There is also the full sound of the youth orchestra, The Mayo Ensemble, led by renowned multi-instrumentalist Stephen Doherty.

The result is an intimate and heartwarming evening of music, song and story, filled with festive atmosphere and the unmistakable rhythm of Irish tradition.

Join host Pauline Scanlon for a festive feast of Irish talent on TG4 at 7pm on Christmas Day with performances and collaborations from the cream of Irish traditional and folk music.
