Mayo swimmer makes more history

Sunday, October 4 saw Mayo swimming phenom Carol Commons make more history when she became the first swimmer from Connacht to swim the Bristol Channel.
The swim is a total of 23.11 miles (37.19km). After an unsuccessful attempt back in June, the Killala native swam from Glenthorn, England to Newton beach, Porthcawl, Wales, in a time of 12 hours 43 mins.

It is not the first time Carol has completed epic swimming feats. She swam the North Channel from Ireland to Scotland last year, covering a distance of 52.5km, becoming the first person from Connacht to complete this feat also.
