Mayo school excels in Connacht

The 5th/6th girls of Quay NS who were crowned Connacht cross country champions: Grace Tighe, Ysanne Harrison, Ariana O’Flynn, Bethan Kelly and Alimay Grimes.
Athletics: Three teams from the Quay NS qualified to run in the Connacht Primary Schools Cross Country championships having qualified through both the North Mayo and Mayo qualifying races.
Síomha Whelan ran her best race this year to claim third place in the 3rd/4th class girls race. Laura Deacy, Sadie Clarke, Pippa Clarke, Ciara Doyle and Isabella Battle all battled well and the school team placed fourth in a top class competition.
In the 3rd/4th class boys race, the Quay NS were crowned Connacht champions after a strong team performance. Joe Tighe came third; Kyle Molloy was fifth and the remaining team made up of Kenny Rafter, James Kelly, Cian O’Flynn and Harry Ruane all packed well to secure gold for the Ballina school.
In the 5th/6th girls race, the Quay NS claimed more team gold after a battling performance from all athletes. Grace Tighe added to her North Mayo and Mayo titles with an impressive victory in this Connacht race. The school team of Grace Tighe, Ysanne Harrison, Ariana O’Flynn, Bethan Kelly and Alimay Grimes are now deserving provincial champions.

Sixth class pupil Scott Clarke ran as an individual in the race for 5th/6th class boys. With prizes for the top dozen individuals, Scott was determined to claim a prize. He ran extremely well to claim sixth place and claim his Connacht medal.
All were a credit to the school and continued a rich tradition of success in cross country running.
