Bonfires will blaze in Foxford this evening upon the arrival home of All-Ireland champions.

The under-15 boys team from St Joseph’s Secondary School have won the FAI Schools National ‘B’ Final at sun-kissed Jackman Park in Limerick City.

They were too good for Munster champions Coláiste na Sceilge from Caherciveen and full value for their 3-1 win on Wednesday afternoon.

The boys from the Moy led by a Jamie Loughney goal to nil at half-time, having dominated the opening 35 minutes, even playing into the breeze.

St Joseph’s captain Ronnie Deacy had already gone close twice to opening the scoring when an inviting cross from the left wing by Gearóid Clarke was prodded home by Loughney two minutes before the interval.

Deacy was marshalling a watertight Foxford defence that restricted their Kerry opponents to very few opportunities, but it would take until 15 minutes before full-time for the Mayo boys to double their lead, as Deacy dispatched a bullet header past Caherciveen goalkeeper Hunter Boyou from Rory Gruddy’s whipped-in corner-kick.

The result was made safe eight minutes from time when Loughney raced on to an excellent through-ball by Rian Jordan to double his tally with St Joseph’s third goal of the game.

Coláiste na Sceilge did pull a goal back through substitute Woytek Gwis, and St Joe’s goalkeeper Aaron Boukioud pulled off an excellent save to deny the Kerry side’s captain Kevin Foster, but the flurry came too late to deny Foxford their day in the sun.

St Joseph’s: Aaron Boukioud, Finn Sweeney, Jamie Sweeney, Ronnie Deacy, Frank Berkowski, Sean Walsh, Michael Ruane, Rory Gruddy, Jamie Loughney, Rian Jordan, Gearóid Clarke. Subs used: Patrick O’Malley, Darren Butler.
