Mayo flooding issues highlighted

Cllr Blackie Gavin

Mayo County Council has been asked to look into three areas in the Castlebar Municipal District where flooding is a problem.

Cllr Blackie Gavin told last week's municipal district meeting that "a lot of residents" at Cloonkeen on the Westport Road in Castlebar are having to deal with flooding during heavy rainfall.

"I brought this up last year but nothing is being done about it. Also at Cloggernagh Railway Crossing in Islandeady, I provided some funding for flooding there but still nothing has been done. Also, there is flooding on the Crossmolina Road at the Lahardane end of the village before the bridge. A house there gets flooded on a regular basis and now is the time to look at it. These three flooding issues are critical.”

Management said they would look into these issues.
