A man has been arrested in an investigation into an alleged assault and suspicious approaches to children in the Dublin 3 area.

The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested in Santry on Tuesday after a property was searched in the area.

He is being held at a Garda station in Dublin.

Several young children were approached, and at least on assaulted in Clontarf, North Dublin, last month, according to The Irish Times.

In one incident, children of national school age were with each other when they were approached by a man on the street near the Howth Road.

It is alleged that the approaches to the children were inappropriate and were followed by an assault, The Irish Times reported.

The man is believed to have left the area by bike before any adults in the vicinity had time to realise what had happened and intervene.

The paper understood that other similar incidents have allegedly occurred in the same region of Dublin.

Members from the Divisional Protective Services Unit, DMR North, Clontarf and Santry undertook the search and conducted the arrest.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
