The council passed a Sinn Féin motion on Monday night to raise the flag.

The parade was led out of the grounds of City Hall by Lord Mayor Micky Murray.

Sonya Stokes told a demonstration held at City Hall on Thursday evening that her abuser and all other convicted sex offenders should be housed on “Spike Island".

The two groups exchanged insults and a small number of fireworks and other missiles were thrown.

The Independent Group on the council have submitted an emergency motion to fly the flag above City Hall and will be heard at Monday’s monthly meeting
