There has been a mixed reaction in Swinford to the news that the German retail chain Aldi is seeking planning permission to develop a single-storey supermarket at Newpark.

The supermarket said the recall applies to all batches of Village Bakery eight white tortilla wrap packs, with all best before dates up to and including April 29th

From March 25th, all ALDI stores will open from 8am, Monday to Saturday, and close at 10pm.

There are signs that the more competitive supermarket landscape is drawing more footfall into the East Mayo town of Ballyhaunis.  Jeff Nolan, owner-operator of the local SuperValu, said his store saw lots of new faces in the busy December period.

A supermarket manager has pleaded guilty to stealing €40,000 from his employer in order to feed a gambling addiction. David Ward, of Rhebogue Meadows, Rhebogue, Co Limerick, pleaded guilty at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court to six counts of theft.
