The blaze broke out on Tara Hill in Gorey at around 3.45pm, with seven units from Wexford and Wicklow Fire Services battling the blaze overnight along with gardaí, local farmers and Coillte officials in a bid bring it under control.

Forestry agency Coillte has urged people not to light fires or barbeques in high-risk areas.

On September 26th 2022, the appeals board gave the go-ahead for the 21 turbine wind farm on a 1,434 hectare site mainly owned by Coillte to the east of the 10-time All Ireland winner’s native Ballyhale in south east Kilkenny

Coillte has carried out works to remove and prevent the spread of an invasive species in order to protect the biodiversity of Tourmakeady Wood.

The proposal for seven turbines measuring 583 feet met significant local opposition and was first refused by Carlow County Council and then by An Bord Pleanála on appeal.
