UCD professor of economics, Ron Davies argues that Europe should have pursued a trade war to gain respect from Trump and suggests cutting the US out of future deals

The EU is set to face 15 per cent tariffs on most of its goods including cars, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals entering America rather than a 30 per cent levy previously threatened by the US President.

It comes after figures indicated that one in four pubs in Ireland have closed in the past 20 years.

The US president said he would put a 200% tariff on all alcoholic products coming out of EU countries

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said he couldn’t speculate on what US products the EU could buy more of to help avert a trade war.
