The jury at the Central Criminal Court in November deliberated for close to five hours before returning their unanimous verdict against Gavin.

19-year-old Marius Mamaliga suffered hypoxic brain injury which was caused by the deprivation of oxygen to the brain due to blood loss

The accused, Brandon Gavin (22), who stabbed a man in the neck while sitting behind him in a car, told gardaí that the deceased “came at” him so he defended himself, the jury also heard.

Brandon Gavin (22), of Brookdale Road, Rivervalley, Swords, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 19-year-old Marius Mamaliga at Forest Court, Swords.
