Five citizens’ assemblies have been established by the Houses of the Oireachtas in the past nine years, aimed at involving members of the public in the consideration of constitutional, legal or policy questions.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Gino Kenny said the committee will hear from those who aim to adopt a "compassionate health-led approach" to delivering services which reduce harm and support recovery.

People will be asked to vote on a series of amendments to the Constitution

The party also passed a series of motions on disability rights.

The Assembly recommended the government take a health-led approach to personal drug use, to reduce the harm caused by illicit drugs.

The Citizens’ Assembly on Drugs Use is meeting to consider a broad range of perspectives on prevention.
