The walkout follows similar action that took place in October 2022, when thousands of college students walked out of lecture halls to bring attention to both the student accommodation and the cost-of-living crisis.

The policy areas included in the Student Manifesto are: Housing and Transport, Access to Education, Democracy and International Affairs, Student Wellbeing and Inclusion, and the Irish language.

Ahead of the walkout, the USI is calling on the government to introduce protections for students living in digs, build affordable student accommodation, and abolish the student contribution charge

The union said its third-level members voted "overwhelmingly" in favour of industrial action, "up to and including strike action"
