The large attendance at the launch of the short film and photo exhibition of 'Where Do We All Belong?' which opened in Abhainn Studio, Enniscrone, on Friday, October 17. The exhibition runs until November 15.

Where Do We All Belong?

‘Where Do We All Belong?’ is a powerful and heartfelt visual art/audio/photographic examination of loneliness in rural Sligo currently on display at Abhainn Studio, Enniscrone. This project has been in incredible journey and congratulations are extended to Noel Feeney, Ronan Dillon and Peter Martin for all the creativity, dedication and hard work that went into making it happen.

In 2023 the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre found that Ireland has the highest levels of loneliness in Europe with over 20% of respondents reporting feeling lonely most or all of the time compared to a 13% average across the EU. It is a recognised public health issue that impacts wellbeing both at an individual and societal level. It is associated with a range of negative health outcomes.

This socially-engaged visual art project addressing loneliness in Co Sligo, drew on the tradition of mobile rural services, such as travelling shops and libraries. The lads spent a week driving across Sligo in a mobile research unit gathering anonymous surveys and reflections on loneliness. The feedback inspired the visual art project and short film that they hope will inspire meaningful connections and promote social inclusion.

Noel, Ronan and Peter extend thanks to West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone for all their support, to @cianlookalive for photos on the night, to @thewhitehag for the Sligo beer, and to everyone who came out on Friday, October 17, for the opening of the exhibition and short film. This thought-provoking exhibition on loneliness will continue until November 15, at Abhainn Studio. Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-6pm.

Free E-Waste collection

It’s time to clear old electricals and help Ireland hit its 2025 recycling targets. Anything with a plug, batter or cable can be recycled for free – from washing machines and TVs, to mobile phones, toys, tools, cables, and even farm fence batteries and watches. Collection will take place on Saturday, November 15, from 10am to 4pm at Enniscrone Pier Car Park.

People are buying more electrical goods than ever – 25kg per person in 2024. These events are a chance to recycle old items lying around the house. 96% of collected e-waste is recovered for reuse; end of life electronics contain valuable metals and minerals; recycling helps protect our environment and supports a circular economy. Let’s turn old tech into tomorrow’s resources.
