Local Notes: Wedding bells in Knockmore for Hugh and Shiru

Congratulations to Hugh Armstrong, son of Eileen and Oliver Armstrong, Lisdovogue, Knockmore, and Shiru Mubea, Kenya, who were married in a beautiful ceremony in Christ the King Church, Knockmore on Saturday, August 24th.
The wedding party included Maid of Honour Anna Ndiwera, bridesmaids Abby Mubea (sister of the bride), Christelle Da Gama, Debbie Emmanuel, Tracy Nakawooya, Gloria Nankya, Tvesha Patil, Renike Sonuyi and Sabrina Souza, Best Man Kevin Armstrong (brother of the groom), groomsmen Trevor Crawley, Aaron Hanlon, Padraig Murphy and Shane Quinn.
The ceremony was performed by Fr Michael Reilly, parish priest, Knockmore, and was attended by a large number of family, relatives and friends with many travelling long distances to be present for the special occasion. Music was provided by Sinead Healy.
The reception was held afterwards in the Great National Hotel, Ballina.
Hugh is well known in the athletics world and has represented Ireland in both the World and European Championships. He is at present training for the Dublin City Marathon, which takes place at Halloween.
Both Shiru and Hugh are wished every success, happiness and many blessings for their future years together.
There was no winner of the jackpot in the Conn Rangers Lotto on August 19th last when the numbers drawn were 1, 8, 30 and 34.
The winners of €20 each were Sean O'Hora, Joe Faughnan, Michael Gardiner, PJ Duffy, Josephine McNamara and Marion Murphy, while the Lucky Dip winner was Denise McMahon.

Mayo Cancer Support Association at Rock Rose House in Castlebar would like to thank all those who contributed so generously to their recent church gate collection in Knockmore.
A total of €206.65 was donated and all monies raised will go towards providing services to all affected by cancer diagnosis.
Work will continue in Knockmore Church grounds on the felling and pruning of trees for the next few weeks.
Weekend Masses will be held in the Church with the weekday Masses on Tuesday and Wednesday celebrated in the centre in Knockmore.
For health and safety reasons there will be no entry to the Church grounds from Monday to Friday while the work is in progress.
Well done to the Knockmore Ladies who retained the Division 1 League title on Sunday last with their great win over Burrishoole in the Mayo LGFA Division 1 Cup Final, on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-4.
Ladies, you did us all proud.

The Céide Coast Atlantic Run is recognised as being one of Ireland's most idyllic routes.

There were joyful scenes at the conclusion of the Mayo LGFA Division 5 Shield Final at Bekan last weekend when MacHale Rovers B team clinched the title by defeating Achill on a low-scoring 0-6 to 0-4 finish.
Captain Jenny Kelly accepted the shield on behalf of her team much to the delight of her jubilant teammates. Congratulations to all involved.
Sit-down exercise classes for women and men continue on Monday nights in the Newman Institute, Ballina, commencing at 7pm.
