The Community Spring Clean/Litter Pick took place on the May Bank Holiday Weekend. The Community Council would like to thank everybody who took part in such an important task in order to keep Islandeady 'Litter-Free'.

Further litter picks are planned at regular intervals, but of course the easiest thing is to be vigilant and prevent littering wherever possible.

First Holy Communion

Keep in your prayers at this time the young children from Cloggernaugh, Cogaula and Cornanool NS who made their First Holy Communion at 12 noon on Saturday last in St Patrick's Church, Islandeady.

Funeral Ministry Teams

In a few years there will be very few priests and many of the ministries that are carried out will have to be ministered by lay people. The Archdiocese at present is preparing Funeral Ministry Teams in parishes to assist families at a time of bereavement. The church recommends that when no priest or deacon is available to lead the prayers at the funeral home or the home of the deceased and graveside prayers in the cemetery, then a lay person may lead the appropriate rites. A training programme has begun and two parishes have completed the training. All parishes and pastoral councils are now been asked to consider the needs of their parish and discuss Funeral Ministry Teams as a possibility.

Fishermen's success

Congratulations to Islandeady fishermen Tommy Carroll, who was the winner in the Westport Anglers' Seamus O'Malley Cup, and Ray Barrett who was also a winner.
