Disco party for the underage

At the recent underage boxing event staged in Knockmore Community Hall recently the host club had nine boxers in the ring, some for the very first time in competition. Knockmore/Foxford club (KFC) are grateful to St Anne's BC, Ardagh/Crossmolina BC, Eagle BC and Claremorris BC for attending the event and providing boxers to make the event a huge success. Every boxer involved was presented with medals after their contest and as the event came to a conclusion the man himeself appeared and Santa presented trophies to all the boxers that participated in the event. 

Underage Coach Joseph Hannon from KFC was presented with an award by club coach/secretary Billy Rice for his outstanding services to the underage group in the club. It was noted that without Joe's assistance there would be no underage boxers in the club. The club will close the year with a disco/party tomorrow Wednesday evening, December 20, at 7pm in the Foxford Leisure Centre. The event is open to the general public free of charge and it is envisaged that Santa will be present and awards will be presented to winners of various competitions organised for the event.

Christmas Vigil Mass Times in the parish

Christrmas Eve Mass, December 24, will be celebrated in Rathduff Church at 6.30pm and in Knockmore Church at 8pm. A warm welcome is extended to all.

Well Done Hugh

Congratulations to Hugh Armstrong, on his great performance in the European finals of the 6km track and field team race held in Belgium last Sunday. The team were only narrowly defeated for a bronze medal in the final laps. The race was televised on RTÉ 2 and was watched and cheered on especially by neighbours, cousins and friends of Hugh. Hugh is son of Ollie and Eileen Armstrong, Lisduvogue, Knockmore.

Fr Brendans New Book

Holding Out for a Hero is the title of a new book from Fr Brendan Hoban, looking at the hope and promise that Pope Francis is bringing to the Church. Copies are available from Easons, Ballina at €18. It would make a lovely Christmas gift.

Recent Deaths

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the late PJ Finnerty, Oxford, UK and late of Calladashin, Knockmore. He was brother of Tom, Kevin and Martha Finnerty. He was pre-deceased only a short few weeks ago by his sister Ann Mullagh (nee Finnerty), Oxford. May they both rest in peace.

New members welcome

New members will be most welcome to join Rathduff Church choir to prepare for Christmas.

St Stephens Day Swim at Lough Conn

The St Stephens Day Swim will take place at Lough Conn Pier, Crossmolina, at 12 noon. All are asked to support the event and be as generous as possible. This year all funds raised will go towards the counselling services in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Sponsorship cards are available from Mulherns Gala, Crossmolina. Light refreshments will be served after the swim.

Local Text Alert

With the long nights with us please keep an eye out for the vunerable and those living on their own. All are asked also to be extra vigilant and report any unusual sightings or activities in the area. Nothing is too small to report on and could be of great help to the Gardai in curbing crime.

Adoration

Adoration/Holy Hour takes place on Thursday mornings in Knockmore church from 10.30-11.30am. Please note the change of time. All are welcome to drop in at any time.

Knockmore Bingo

Bingo continues every Monday night at 8.30pm in the Community Hall in Knockmore with valuable prizes to be won every night. Refreshments will also be served. It is a lovely night to meet up with neighbours and friends.

Conn Rangers FC lotto

The numbers drawn on December 4 in the weekly Conn Rangers lotto draw were 9, 16, 20 and 24. Grow Group Ballina

Grow Group Ballina: self help meetings for people suffering with depression, loneliness, anxiety, etc. are held on Tuesdays at 8pm in the Ballina Community Centre. Call Cecelia on 086 1074695 for further details. All are welcome.

Enable Ireland

Enable Ireland Mayo Services require volunteers in all areas of County Mayo to work with children with a disability. Volunteers usually work one-to-one with a child within their home but also within their community or at the centre in Castlebar. Training is provided. If you have any unwanted clothing in good condition, please drop into the centre in Knockmore. Bags can be left at the back door. They will be very much appreciated as a fundraiser for the centre.

Legion of Mary meetings

The Legion of Mary Senior Praesidium hold their meetings in the sacristy on Tuesday mornings following 10am Mass in Knockmore Church and on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm for the Junior meetings. If you are interested and would like to find out more about their works, contact any of its members.

Dinners from the Centre

Dinners continue to be available from the centre in Knockmore on weekdays Monday –Friday. This is proving a very popular service in the community and is used by a cross section of people. If you are living alone, or too busy to cook lunch, or whatever the dinners can be delivered, collected or eaten at the centre’s dining room. Contact the centre on 094 9258016 for full details.

Internet Hub at the Centre

Mayo Mental Health Association

The information centre in Bohernasup, Ballina, is open to everyone in the community. They provide options, supports and guidance for individuals and their families experiencing mental health difficulties. The information centre provides a confidential sign posting and the drop-in service is open Monday to Wednesday from 9.30am to 4pm. Call 096 71492 for more information.

Barry's Book 

Ardagh GAA Club officials and players have congratulated their strength and conditioning coach, Barry Loftus, Crossmolina, on the recent publication of his debut book, "Baby Dara and The Sahara", and urge supporters to pick up a copy this festive season. The book is on sale at all major bookstores and retail outlets throughout the county.

Sold Out 

A quiz, organised by Ardagh GAA Club's junior team, is completely sold out. The fundraising event will take place this Thursday night, December 21, at 8pm in Mickey O'Boyles. A variety of top prizes to be won during a raffle on the night. All support greatly appreciated.

Bag Pack

Fun Run

Bereavement Support Group
