Robe Cinema is a new community cinema set-up in Ballinrobe with screenings set to take place in Ballinrobe Library. The news of this exciting venture was warmly greeted in Ballinrobe last week and surrounding areas, as the bustling south Mayo town used to always have a rich tradition of cinematic viewing, going back to the days of the cinema on Bowgate Street, and then the famous Ritz Cinema, which used to be situated on Bridge Street.
The Robe Cinema has been formed following the success of multiple screenings during the recent Ballinrobe Festival, including An Cailín Ciúin and That They May Face The Rising Sun, which included a questions and answers discussion with actors and writers. The organisers of Robe Cinema are now planning for many more events throughout the year, with monthly screenings taking place in Ballinrobe Library.
Robe Cinema will host a screening of Kneecap on October 3 and tickets will be on sale soon. Kneecap is the award winning Irish language movie being tipped for Oscar nominations in 2025. Robe Cinema brings the latest movies to the big screen, hosts captivating film festivals, and offers diverse screenings for all interests.
Further details and information are available by visiting www.robecinema.com or by visiting the Robe Cinema Facebook page.

The senior women’s team played their first fixture of the new season on Sunday, September 15, when they hosted South East Galway Warriors, at The Green in the Women’s Invitational Cup. This was S.E.G. Warriors second fixture of the season and their match fitness proved crucial in the end, as the Galway visitors ran out comfortable 67-26 winners.
However, there were some positives that Ballinrobe can take from this performance, especially the fact that they managed to notch four tries.

No previous playing experience is required, with this team being a fun and sociable team and is a great way to stay active and keep-fit. Some additional volunteers are urgently required to help out for approx 2 hours every 2nd Wednesday from 12.30pm – 2.30pm. If you are recently retired or have spare time on your hands you’ll be very welcome as a volunteer.
Islandeady Mens shed continued to remain active throughout the summer months despite their busy home schedules and the Islandeady community really appreciate the commitment and dedication of this group, which demonstrates the pride they take in their own community, for the benefit of everyone.
Several projects carried out by this group may go unnoticed by some but must be acknowledged publicly, as they are playing a vital role in maintaining the wonderful community. Essential work such as cleaning gutters, cutting the hedges and maintaining the community centre building itself is so important to facilitate the many groups and activities the centre caters for. This group also carried out some maintenance work at the ‘Bilberries' playgroup facility and St Pauls National School, cleaning all outside areas, gardening and painting in preparation for all the pre-school and National school children’s return after the summer holidays
The group are presently planning outings and activities for the winter months such as bowling, classes and social outings. They are open to welcoming new members and ideas at any time. Contact Eoin 087 7450464 for details.
