40th Anniversary for Erris Utd

On October 27, the club will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a number of events taking place on the day, with a game at 1pm, over 35’s v the current junior side and members of the All-Ireland Youth Cup winning side from 2004, plus there will be a host of activates for all ages at the club ground also. Later that evening in the Clann Lir there will be a power-point display featuring great moments from times past and team line-ups. Also that evening the club will launch the ‘Pick the Team of Legend’s’ where you will have the opportunity to pick the team of your choice over the last 40 years. Entry is €10 with the result on New Year’s Day.

From humble beginnings back in 1984 the club has made tremendous progress over the years having a successful youth system right up to seniors with awards on the pitch and off, both local and national. All of this success would not be achieved without the support of the community and numerous club committees and officers over the years. 

Kilcommon Community Development lotto

The draw was held on October 13, and the numbers drawn were; 1, 6, 7, and 10 for a jackpot €7,800 with no winner. The house prize of €100 was won by Aiden Maloney, Glengad and the two €30 offline winners were Mary O’Malley, Cornboy and Elisha McGrath, Milltown. The two €30 online winners were Dee Gallagher, Donegal and Rebecca Lally, Foxpoint. 

Teach Greannai, Cornboy

Woodturning classes take place in Teach Greannai every Monday evening, with enrolment from 6pm and there are limited places available.

In conjunction with Mayo North East, Teach Greannai is running a free Digital Training workshop. The content covered is relevant to daily life giving you the confidence to use the internet. Topics covered include: ROS, My Account, Government services, online banking etc. If interested call 097 88935 and you will be give a time and date asap.

‘The Farmboy’ in Northampton

'The Farmboy' presented by Kilmore Drama Group will be staged on November 12. The play is set in a quiet boreen and surrounds in the West of Ireland and tells the story of greed and unhappiness and those who suffer the consequences. The play was written by Ann Lavelle, directed by Keith McDonnell and produced by Josephine Geraghty. The Farmboy is making welcomed return to Aras Inis Gluaire on November 8 and 9, with tickets available at reception from today.

Ballyglass RNLI golf classic success

The RNLI fundraising classic was held recently. It was a wonderful day on the course, all in support of a truly remarkable cause. The RNLI’s tireless efforts and dedication to saving lives at sea are invaluable, not only to the local community but far beyond. Their bravery and commitment is an inspiration to all.

Ballyglass RNLI extend thanks to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make this event such a great success especially Carne Golf Links for supporting them and to all the sponsors. Hopefully, it will be the first of many days like this.

Halloween disco

A Halloween disco will be held in Inver Community Centre from 3-5pm on the October 31, with prizes for best costumes.

Ballycroy Reunion Dinner

The Ballycroy Reunion Dinner Dance takes place on November 16, at the Claddagh Ring, Hendon at 7.30pm with Mass at 6pm at Our Lady Dolour’s Catholic Church NW4 4BH.

Golden Gloves Boxing Club

Golden Gloves were in action recently at the Ballina Boxing club tournament. Congratulations to Chloe Coyle who got a great start to her season after a good win over Emma Rattigan from Aglish Boxing Club. 

Erris St Pats in fine form

Well done to Erris St Pat's and management on winning the Homeland Division 5 League recently in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence. The final score was Erris St Pat’s 6.06 and Claremorris (B) 0.04.

Alcoholic Anonymous open meeting

An Alcoholic Anonymous open meeting will be held in the IWA centre in Logmore on October 27, at 5pm. There will be speakers from AA and Al-anon  on the day.

Memorial darts

The memorial Mary Gilboy Cup Darts event will take place on October 27, in Eagle Bar in Corclough West. Mayo Ladies darts will commence at 12.30pm and the open and memorial cup will commence at 4pm. This competition is confined to Erris. All proceeds are going towards Inis Aoibhinn.

Erris Park Run

Recently 33 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of which seven were first timers. There was a big welcome to all the visitors; Julian Beard (first home) Ian O’Gorman, Helena Kavanagh, Liz Easternrook, Judith Williams, Shauna Gillan and Sharon Flanagan. They all enjoyed their first time at Erris Parkrun and they look forward to visiting again sometime. There were two new personal bests recorded. Well done to Bridget McMahon and Ann McGonagall. Representatives of six different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by seven volunteers: Lynda Reilly, Anthony Reilly, Michael John Walsh, Michael James Walsh, Elizabeth Walsh, Seán Walsh and Breege Gilbert.

CLG Cill Chomain

A race night will be held in the Anglers' Rest, Glenamoy on Saturday, November 2. Horses are on sale at €20 each. Winner of each race gets €50.

County Junior Football final

The Cill Chomáin v Bonniconlon county junior final will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 7pm in McHale Park. Cill Chomáin flags are available in local shops. 

Glenamoy Association London

The Glenamoy Association in London are having a fundraising evening in aid Mags Deane Smith from Glenamoy on Friday, November 1, in the Claddagh Ring in Hendan. Music on the night with Martin Ruddy and his Band and they will be getting underway at 9.30pm. There will be an auction and raffle on the night will all funds raised going towards spinal surgery. 

Kiltane GAA lotto

The draw was held on October 14, and the numbers drawn were 12, 28, 29 and 31 with no winner. The €50 winners were Bert Flannery and Paula McNagle, Templeogue. The €24 winners were Sean Coyle Glengad and Kathleen Linnane, Derrynameel. The online winner of €50 was Patrick Sweeney, Glencastle and the €25 online winner was Frances Moran, Geesala.
