Local Notes: Students from St Louis Community School, Kiltimagh attend Youth Conference

The death took place on December 27 of May Wynne nee O'Grady, Cuilmore, Gurteen. A quiet unassuming and friendly member of the parish she was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Age ninety six May was one of the older people in the community and she will be sadly missed by her family and many neighbours and friends. Her remains reposed at O'Dowd's Funeral Home on Friday evening, December 29, and were removed from her daughter Mary's home on Saturday for Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr Joe Caulfield with burial afterwards in Gurteen Cemetery. Predeceased by her husband John Patrick and brother John, May is survived by her sons Gerard and Joseph, daughter Mary O'Hara, daughter-in-law Janie, son-in-law Seamus, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.
The death took place suddenly on December 25 of Caolan O'Dowd age twenty nine, Boyle Road, Gurteen. News of his untimely passing was received with shock and deep sadness in the community where he was well-known and popular. His remains reposed at his residence and were removed to St Patrick's Church, Gurteen, on Friday for Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr James McDonagh with burial afterwards in Gurteen Cemetery. Predeceased by his grandparents Wish and Betty O'Dowd and Paddy Kane, he is survived by his parents Padraig and Catherine, sister Andrea, brother Donal and partner Karen, grandmother Jean Kane, uncles and aunts, cousins and a large circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.
Well done to the pupils of Cloonloo NS who sent over three hundred Christmas cards to each resident in Boyle's Nursing Homes and also raised money for Focus Ireland homeless charity by Christmas jumpers day in school.
Congratulations and best wishes to Catriona McDonagh, Cuilmore and James McHugh, Carrigart, Donegal who married in St. Brigid's Church, Ballisodare, on December 22 last.
Gurteen Bingo committee have organised a remembrance Mass for all deceased and bereaved patrons in St Patrick's Church, Gurteen, on Friday, January 12, at 7pm. Refreshments will be served in the Hall afterwards. All welcome.
Bingo is held in Gurteen Hall every Friday night at 8pm, with a jackpot of €3200 in forty eight calls or less. The lotto raffle jackpot is €250, and there is also a 50/50 split. Support is greatly appreciated.
A total of €1,225 from the cribs in the three churches last year was sent to 'Aid to Church in Need' for nuns in Ukraine who care for orphans and refugees. This year the money donated will also go to Aid to Church in Need to Nuns in Ukraine.
The Eastern Harps Christmas 50/50 draw on Wednesday night, December 27, with a Jackpot of €1039 was won by Peggy Gaffney, Gurteen. There were five other prizes as well. The following weeks draw was on Tuesday night, January 2, with a jackpot of €616 and the winner was Sylvia Casey, Culfadda. The Eastern Harps Club is very appreciative of all the support throughout the year.
The numbers drawn in the Gurteen Celtic draw recently were 3, 6,8 and 17. Kelly Mullen won the €50. The following weeks draw had the numbers 17, 19, 27 and 28 drawn and the €50 winner was Declan O'Dowd, Gurteen. Many thanks for your support.

The death took place of Margaret Creaton (née Morrissey), Loughglynn, Castlerea, Co Roscommon and formerly of Clonshee Trench, Ahascragh, Co. Galway, peacefully at her home in her 94th year, surrounded by her family. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Denis, infant daughter Anne, brothers Mikie-Joe, and Bill and her sisters Frances, Mary and Bridie. Margaret is survived by her heartbroken family, her sons James, and Denis, daughters Mary and Mairead, sisters Katie, Annie and Eileen, brothers Seán, Mikie and Joe, grandchildren Denis, Seán, Jack, Katie, Shane, Shelly, Tisha, Hannah, Denis, Jamie, Christina, Gráinne and Roisín, great-grandchildren Ryan, Daniel, Senan, Caleb, Donnacha and Teddy, sons-in-law Patsy Barron and Patsy McNulty, daughters-in-law Kathleen and Bridie, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
Margaret reposed in her home on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 until 7.30pm. Removal took place on Thursday evening to the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Loughglynn, arriving at 8pm. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Friday at 12 noon, followed by interment in Cuiltyboe Cemetery. May Margaret rest in peace as sincere sympathy is offered to all who are bereaved.
Kilmovee bingo returned on Sunday, January 7, at 8.30pm and the committee thanked their loyal patrons for their support over the last year and wish them health and happiness in the coming year.
