The death took place of Patrick Gaffney on September 14, peacefully surrounded by his loving family, in the care of the staff at the Roscommon Hospice. Patrick, better known as Pat, was a native of Ballinagare, County Roscommon, was a member of An Garda Siochana and for most of his working career served in Ballyhaunis, where he became very popular with all the locals and was very highly regarded by them. Pat could always see the brighter side of most situations, and some of the glowing tributes paid to him recently were a kind and sympathetic person who always wore a smile. A gentleman who was a pleasure to meet and to work with, who will be sorely missed by the people of Ballyhaunis and its hinterland.
Pat was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Laurence, sister Mary and nephew John and is survived by his wife Frances and his daughters Lorraine, Ruth and Trish. He will be forever missed by his family, sons-in-law Jerh O’Connor, Mel Burke and Alan Grady, his adored grandchildren Brian, Hugh, Gregory, Malachi, Laurence, Vincent, Martha and Maud, nieces Caroline and Martina, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, neighbours and friends.
Pat reposed at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon on Sunday, September 15, and removal took place from his home on Monday, September 16, arriving to the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am followed by interment in Drummin Cemetery, Ballinagare. May Pat rest in peace.
