KCC 50/50 draw

Swinford AC Spring 5k Series

The Swinford AC Spring 5k Series continues every Wednesday until May 8, as follows; May 1 Foxford and May 8 Kiltimagh. Registration from 7pm each night with a start time of 7.30pm. €5 entry fee. For more info contact Adette 087 2362112 or Micheal 086 8196511.

Community Games

Swinford Community Games will take place on Monday, May 6 (Bank Holiday Monday) at Swinford Amenity Athletics Track. Registration from 10.30am with a start time of 11am. Entry fee €5 per child or €20 per family. Races for children from Preschool age to U16 as well as the parents’ race.

Gardening Club outing

A Gardening Club outing will take place to Athenry and Portumna on Saturday, May 11. There will be guided tours of Portumna Castle and Gardens and Portumna Workhouse along with a visit to Athenry Heritage Centre. The cost is €80 for club members and €85 for non-members. Camera Club

The next meeting of Swinford Camera Club will take place on Wednesday, May 1, in the meeting room on Lower Main St. Come along to a meeting and see if you would like it. You don't have to have an expensive camera or equipment to join the camera club. All abilities catered for as well as the different makes and types of cameras and mobile phones. As always, new members are very welcome, especially beginners.

Indoor Market

The next Swinford Indoor Market will take place in the Cultural Centre on Saturday, May 4, from 10.30am to 3pm. The vendors will be showcasing an array of products, including locally sourced produce, crafts, and other unique items. Cácaí Acla will be serving teas, coffees and their fabulous bakes adding to the overall experience.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community lotto draw held on April 22, were 1, 5, 17 and 26. €70 vouchers were won by Anne Forkan, Lislackagh and C McCann, Rathunas; €35 was won by Lisa Molloy, c/o Eurospar and Laura Campbell, c/o Campbells. The jackpot is now €12,800.

Ladies golf lessons

Have you always been curious about golf but never had the chance to try it? Eight one-hour lessons for women will start on Tuesday, April 30, at 7pm. National Pilgrimage for Life

The first National Pilgrimage for Life, organised by the Council for Life of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, will be celebrated on Saturday, May 4, in Knock Shrine. The pilgrimage begins with Anointing of the Sick in the Basilica at 2.30pm, followed by Mass at 3pm and rosary procession after Mass, weather permitting. Main celebrant and homilist will be Archbishop Francis Duffy.

GAA 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Michael Smyth who was last week’s winner of the Swinford GAA Club 50/50 draw held in Eurospar winning €369. The next draw will take place on Tuesday, April 30, in Moores.

Table quiz

A fundraising table quiz in aid of Irish Breast Cancer Association and Irish Kidney Association will take place in the Whitehouse on May 17, at 8.30pm. Doors are open at 7pm. €40 per table, 4 per table.

Congratulations to Eóghan Lavin who made his professional boxing debut on April 20, in York Hall, London, with Eóghan claiming victory over his opponent. He is wished continued success in his professional career.

Congratulations Eamon

Congratulations to Eamon Horkan who successfully completed The Marathon des Sables raising funds for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. The Marathon des Sables is held each year in the Sahara Desert covering 250km which is approximately the distance of six regular marathons and is considered by many runners as one of the toughest foot races. Well done Eamon on your fantastic achievement.

Gaelic Nursery

Event launch Cathal Kelly will launch Kelly’s Walk 2 Rome in the Whitehouse on Friday, May 3, at 8pm. As part of the 50th anniversary of the club, Moy Davitts is compiling a special commemorative book looking back at the five eventful decades of our club’s history. This book will be launched at a special club event later this year.

This is the first time as an official walk and them organisers would welcome people to join them on the rural route. Oiche Cheoil fundraiser

A special Oíche Cheoil fundraiser in aid of St Patrick’s Church, Glann, will take place at The Brusna Inn on Friday, May 24, starting at 8pm. The Master of Ceremonies on the night will be Christy McCann who will introduce an array of musical talent, including: The Piper’s Cross Céilí Band who are the current All Ireland senior champions, The Collis family and Sylvie Golden, the Towey family; members of Kilmovee Comhaltas; and for one night only to mark this special occasion, there will be a performance from past and present members of the Tavrane School Band. The U8s and 10s returned to training on Friday, April 26, at 6.30pm on the astroturf pitch. Registration is on your foireann account, foireann.ie. using last years’ account if you already have one. The nursery U6s will start in the coming weeks.

The late Anne Frances Corrigan née Murphy

The death took place of Anne Frances Corrigan, New York and late of Station Road and Bothar Buí, Ballaghaderreen, on April 14, peacefully. Anne Frances was predeceased by her son Andrew, brothers Michael and Peter, sister Mary (Gallagher), niece Grace and nephew Brian.

Anne reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Tuesday, April 19, followed by removal to St Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen, arriving at 7.30pm. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Wednesday, April 20, at 12 noon, with the funeral proceeding to Lisacul cemetery.

Anne Frances will be sadly missed and remembered by her husband Leo (formerly of Kiltobranks, Ballaghaderreen), daughter Patricia, son Michael, sister Margaret (Garvey), brother Pat, grandchildren Jack, Madeleine, Gavin and Olivia, daughters-in-law Kellie and Gina, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, friends. May Anne Frances rest in peace as deepest sympathy is offered to all who mourn her passing.

Confirmation in Gurteen

The Sacrament of Confirmation was held on Sunday last, April 28, in Gurteen Church. Bishop Paul Dempsey, came, to confer the sacrament on the 39 young people of 5th and 6th classes of 3 schools Carn, Cloonloo and Mullaghroe. Well done to all the children, teachers their family and sponsors for a happy day and a memorable meeting with Bishop Paul as this was one of his last ceremonies.

Eastern Harps 50/50

Eastern Harps 50/50 draw held on April 15 had a jackpot of €674 and the winner was Barry Gallagher, Gurteen.

Gurteen Celtic lotto
