Local Notes: Season over for Sunday morning Enniscrone Tidy Towns beach cleans.
Enniscrone Tidy Towns had a big crowd out on Sunday morning, August 30, from Castleconnor GAA Club, with 28 participants turning up to litter pick the beach. This was the last of the summer 2026 beach cleans and Enniscrone Tidy Towns and Clean Coasts thank all the individuals, from all the local sports clubs and social groups, who made the effort to come out to help on Sunday mornings.
The group extend thanks to Offshore Coffee and More and their staff who provided free coffees and ice-creams on Sunday mornings.
The death has taken place unexpectedly of Joseph (Joe) Forde, Carrowcarden, Enniscrone, Co Sligo on August 26 last. He was predeceased by his parents Mai and Michael, brother Vincent and sister Pauline.
Joe will be sadly missed by his beloved husband of Teresa, sons Joseph and Dermot, daughter Marian, daughter-in-law Aisling, son-in-law Steven, adored grandchildren Shonagh, Daithi and Oisin, brothers James (New York), Michael John (Carrowgarry), sister Mary (Spiddal, Galway), sisters-in-law Maura, Mary Kathleen, Maeve (Oliver RIP), Chrisy (Jim), brothers-in-law Fred and Paddy (Attracta), nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Joe reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Sunday evening from 5pm with removal at 6.30pm to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone. His requiem Mass was held on Monday morning, August 31 at 11a, followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass.

Congratulations to the U15 Enniscrone Kilglass team and managements on their brilliant win over Shamrock Gaels in the championship final played at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence in Scarden last week.
The lads produced an outstanding display to cap off a memorable year, having also captured the league title earlier in the season. Well done to all involved.
Earlier in the year the U15s were presented with club polo shirts with ‘The 1929 Trust’ printed on the back. The 1929 Trust is the brainchild of Brendan Golden, an Australian based supporter of the club, to commemorate the 1929 Kilglass team, winners of that year’s senior championship title. Brendan has a family connection to the team through Frank Golden and the club thanks The 1929 Trust for their support.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, August 30, were 10, 14 and 42. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Mary O’Dowd, Johnny Bourke, Seamus Rowlette and Eoghan McGuinness. The jackpot in the latest draw, which was held in Hopkins Bar, on Sunday, September 6, was €5200.
The Enniscrone Indoor Market is a perfect place to visit on Saturdays located at F26 EW67 Main Street, next door to Checkout shop. The market is open from 11am to 3pm. Come along and have a look at all the stalls and chat with the wonderful local traders. There is always fresh vegetables and fruits there on Saturdays, as well as oil paintings, crochet, wooden bowls, handmade jewellery, healthy produces, personalised frames and cards, gift ideas and much more.
Meet up with friends or family and visit the café where a breakfast and lunch menu and some sweet treats are available.
The Christmas Fair and free Santa Experience at Kilglass House F26 H685 will take place on December 6, from 10.30am to 4pm where there will be market stalls, face painting, story telling, marshmallow toasting, cake sale, refreshments and much more. The Activator Pole Walking has returned on Mondays and continues to October 20 from 11am to 12 midday, at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone. The weekly walks for all returns this month, on Wednesdays from 11.30am meeting at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre. The short weekly walk around the local area is led by a trained walk leader. The Saturday evening vigil Mass in Enniscrone Church changed from 8pm to 7pm on Saturday evening last, September 5, and going forward will remain at 7pm right throughout the year. There will be a Saturday evening ‘Children’s Mass’ once a month in Enniscrone Church from September.
An open and enrolment evening for post leaving certificate courses will be held at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, on September 10, from 6.30 to 7.30pm. The courses on offer are; Special needs assistant for primary and post primary; healthcare assistant (Healthcare Support 5M4339), pre university nursing; business administration with computerised accounts. Go along on the evening and meet the teachers, explore the facilities and learn more about the exciting PLC course options.
The Enniscrone Men’s shed have been busy creating another fantastic new product – their very own Bingo Boards. The 2nd annual Brendan McGrath Memorial Blitz takes place on Saturday, September 26, at Easkey GAA Grounds. The U13 teams will battle it out for cup, shield and plate. Married v Singles adult game will take place afterwards. Donations on the day will go towards The Dillon Quirke.
Easkey Meals on Wheels are looking for volunteer weekend drivers for the Enniscrone area. Volunteers would need to be available between 11.45am and 1.30pm on a Saturday or Sunday once a month. They would need a full, clean driving licence, and would need to be willing to complete a Garda vetting form. Bingo is back in Dromore West on Friday nights at 8.30pm in the community centre. There will be a jackpot of €700 with extra prizes in their raffle and a 50/50 draw. All proceeds from the raffle and 50/50 draw goes to St Farnan’s Gaelic for Mothers and Others.

Castleconnor GAA Club extend their deepest condolences to the Forde family on the passing of Joseph (Joe) Forde. They extend their sincere sympathy to his wife Teresa, sons Joseph and Dermot, daughter Marion, and all the extended Forde family.
Joe was a former officer of Castleconnor GAA Club, and his son Joseph is one of their underage coaches. The club are also thinking of Joe’s grandchildren and their underage players, Shonagh, Daithi and Oisin, at this very sad time. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on August 29, last were 21, 32, 33 and 38. There was no jackpot and no match 3 winner. The lucky dip winner was Niall Carden. The jackpot in the latest draw held on September 5, was €11,200.
The annual lotto tickets are approaching renewal for the 2026/2027 season, with the final draw for the current holders taking place on Saturday, September 12.
