Santa's Elves at the 5km Santa Fun Run hosted by Swinford AC Fit For Life Group on December 9 last.

Coolegrane Lights

Coolegrane Lights were switched on Friday. December 8, and will continue to shine until January 7. All proceeds this year will go to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Palliative Care Service.

KCC Parish Calendar

Killasser Parish Calendar is available to purchase from committee members or from Moore’s Supermarket Swinford, Kennedy’s in Aclare and The Turf Shed Killasser at a cost of €10.

Nollaig na mBan

The annual Nollaig na mBan social takes place in the Turf Shed on Saturday, January 6, from 4pm. Places are limited. Tickets for a 4-course meal are €20. The event is part subsidised by Killasser Community Care and Community Centre committees. Please contact a member of committees for a ticket.

Jerry O’Sullivan’s new album

Jerry O’Sullivan has recorded a new album entitled Ón Tuath. Ón Tuath, as the title implies, is a celebration of Irish traditional music from the West of Ireland, with a few Scots tunes thrown in for good measure! Jerry O'Sullivan plays uilleann pipes, small pipes, flute, and whistles and is accompanied by Galway maestro Gabe Donohue on keyboard, organ, guitar, bouzouki, etc. This recording features the music of Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Sliabh Luachra, and compositions by Martin Mulhaire, Turlough O'Carolan, Percy French, and a few by Jerry himself. The album is available from The Turf Shed and at a number of businesses in Swinford.

Light of Love

The Butterfly Garden has organised the Light of Love in the lead up to Christmas. All names for which lights have been sponsored have been entered into a special register and will be remembered at the Light of Love Mass on December 22, at 10am in Swinford Church. The Light of Love Christmas Tree is located at the entrance to Swinford Parish Church. All proceeds raised will benefit The Butterfly Garden Maintenance Fund.

KCC 50/50

Congrats to Bradan Boland, winner of €585 in the November Killasser Community Centre 50/50 draw. Tom Lavin and Michael Murphy each won a spot prize of €20. The December jackpot will be €1,000 with the draw taking place on January 6.

St. Stephen’s Day walk

The Saint Stephen's Day walk will take place from Killasser Centre at 12 noon.

Lotto

Results of Swinford Community Lotto draw held on December 11. The numbers drawn were: 8, 15, 28 and 29. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by The Kavanagh Grandkids, Swinford and Cr & L, c/o Campbell's Bar. The jackpot is now €9,400.

Golf Card results

Results of the game played in Swinford Golf Club on Thursday, December 7. Card winners 1st Ann Rowley and Gerry Ronayne, 2nd/3rd prizes were divided between Marty Munnelly, Martin McNeela, Geraldine Turbitt, Mary Callaghan and Bernard Callaghan. Raffle prizes were won by Eileen Geraghty, Esther Munnelly, Michael Ryan and Phyllis Bredican. Game continues every Thursday night in Swinford Golf Club at 9pm.

Book launch

Congratulations to Colleen Coleman, daughter of Betty and Lorcan Cribbin on the recent launch of her book The Irish Lake House in Castle Book Shop, Castlebar. Colleen has five best-selling novels to date and her works have been translated into seven languages. Her works are also in audiobook format voiced by Newstalk’s Clare McKenna and Irish Actress Roisin Rankin. The Irish Lake House has been nominated for the Contemporary Novel of the Year by the Romantic Novel Association. Colleen is wished continued success with her writing.

Christmas Mass schedule

Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in Swinford Church at 9pm. Christmas Day Masses will be celebrated in Meelick Church at 9am, Midfield Church at 10.30am and Swinford Church at 12 noon. A Christmas Carol Service will be held in Killasser Church on Friday, December 22, at 6 pm. Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in Killasser Church at midnight and Christmas Day Mass will be celebrated in Killasser Church at 12 noon.

Swinford FC

All coaches and volunteers must have Garda vetting and Safeguard 1 before the 2024 season commences. The club will assist with each of these requirements as well as helping anyone interested to progress up the FAI coaching ladder.

Congratulations to Jason McLoughlin who was last week’s winner of the Swinford GAA 50/50 draw held in Moores winning €468. The next draw will be held in Horkan’s. Entries are available through SwinfordGAA.ie, Foireann, Clubspot and throughout town.

Run For Hope

Swinford Athletic Club annual ‘Run for Hope’ takes place on December 27, in Midfield. A 5km walk or run to brush of the cobwebs after Christmas. Proceeds this year are in aid of "Cancer Care West"

Donations can be made via the Go Fund me page https://gofund.me/ae8f442b or on the day there will be a donation bucket. Registration from 11.30am with the run/walk taking place at 12 noon.

Meelick Card Game

The late Mary Brennan

The death occurred of Mary Brennan, Gortnasella, who died on Friday, December 8th. She was buried in Joseph cemetery, Bohola on Tuesday 12th December. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved.

Bereavement Support Group

Enable Ireland Mayo Services require volunteers in all areas of County Mayo to work with children with a disability.
