No swimming at Enniscrone Promenade

An appeal has been issued to the public by Sligo County Council not to swim in the sea at Enniscrone Promenade due to dangerous rip currents beside the old cliff baths. Surfing is still permitted in the area.

Launch of new service

Tierragh Community Support Ltd are delighted to help celebrate the launch of Sligo Community Counselling as they expand their services in West Sligo. This new low cost counselling service operates in Sligo town, and in Kilglass House every Wednesday. The official launch of the Kilglass service will take place on Easter Sunday at 11.45am in conjunction with the Easter Egg Hunt. Creative Writing Workshop

Creative writing workshops for adults will run each Tuesday, from 7-9.30pm in the Glencar TeaSHED, from April 22 to June 10, led by award-winning author and poet Shane Leavy. The eight weekly workshops are €190. They are suitable for beginners or more experienced writers or poets, and tea and snacks will be provided. Easter coffee afternoon

Leaffoney NS

Leaffoney NS is a two teacher school with a special education teacher and a part time EAL teacher for children where English is not their first language. The school is open for enrolment for all class groups. The school offers free hot lunches, free gymnastics/swimming classes, free music class, free Summer camps run for two weeks of summer holidays. Community Games

Congratulations to the Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games swimmers who represented the club at the county finals in Sligo, bringing home lots of medals in the process. Well done to all and best of luck to those who have progressed to the national finals.

A super day was held at the area athletics with the sun shining down on the proceedings. There was a great turnout, with all age groups well represented. Huge thanks is extended to everyone associated with Ballina running track for allowing Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games to use the facility, and to all the volunteers who helped make the day such a success. The late Gerry (Gerard) Conmy

The death took place of Gerry (Gerard) Conmy, Culleens, Co Sligo, peacefully in the exceptional care of the staff at Ard na Greine Nursing Home on April 5 last, surrounding by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents Matthew and Mary, his sister Phil and brother Joe, Gerry will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Carrie, son Trevor, daughters Caroline and Sharon, son-in-law Fergal Boyle, Trevor’s partner Brigitta, grandchildren Aodhan, Keelan and Leighanne, great-grandchild Dean, his brother Brendan and sister Antoinette, sisters-in-law Loretta and Miriam and brothers-in-law Jack, Georgie and Matt, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gerry reposed at Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Dromore West from 5 to 7pm on Monday, April 7 and his funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, April 8, at 12 noon in the Church of the Holy Family, Kilglass, followed by burial in Kilglass Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

County Champions

Huge congratulations to the amazing Owenbeg NS Girls’ GAA,migos Team who were winners of the Sligo Skills competition county final which was held in Scarden last week. The girls were outstanding, completing every challenge with skill and confidence to finish top of all the primary schools in Sligo. It was a proud day for Owenbeg NS.

The school extend thanks to Conor, Pat and team in Sligo GAA Coaching and Games for organising the competition, Ms Ruane for her coaching and to all the parents, families and supporters who cheered them on.

Grandparents Day in Stokane NS

Stokane NS celebrated Catholic Schools’ Grandparents’ Day recently when parents, grandparents and other family members joined the children and teachers at the school for a cup of tea or coffee followed by some music played by the pupils. They had a sing song with everyone joining in enthusiastically and then as tradition dictates a short ceili followed. Young and old sang and danced together and a great morning’s fun was held by all.

‘It was lovely to meet the family members that we hear so much about from the pupils but don’t often meet’, said a spokesperson. Stokane NS extend their thanks and appreciation to their music teacher Peter Neary who worked so hard with the pupils to prepare a showcase of their musical talents and acted as MC on the day. They also thank the students and their families who arrived with plates and trays of goodies to be enjoyed with a cuppa. ‘A big thanks you to everybody who joined us, we really enjoyed meeting you and having you visit our school’, she concluded.

Dance Fitness

Dance Fitness class is held every Friday morning at 11am in the Enniscrone Resource Centre. The class costs €8 per session will all proceeds going to the upkeep of the centre. The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA weekly lotto which was held on April 5, were 4, 14, 19 and 35. There was no jackpot winner and no match 3 winner.
