The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on October 21, were; 7, 15, 27 and 29. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by Michael Molloy, Cloonfinaune and Nicola Maloney, Callow; €35 each was won by Líam, Mary and Kevin, c/o Campbells; Philomena Murtagh, Park Road; James Walsh, Kinaffe; Patrick Coyle, Derryronan; Tony Doherty, Liscottle and Breege Gleeson, Swinford. AGM

The 2024 AGM of Swinford Agricultural Show will take place on Sunday, November 10, at 3pm in Boland’s Bar.

Swinford Indoor Market will take place on Saturday, November 2, in Swinford Cultural Centre from 10.30am to 3pm. This craft market presents a delightful selection of handmade treasures and products. Indoor Soccer

Friday night indoor soccer returns in Killasser Community Centre on November 1.

Candlelight Music

A night of Candlelight music will be held in St. Michael's Church, Foxford at 7pm on November 15. Opera singers Anne Marie Gibbons and Sean Ruane will be accompanied by Bella Capella and some Trad music by The Doherty's, Doocey's and McHugh's. All proceeds are in aid of Cancer Care West, Mayo Cancer Support and Oncology Ward (MUH). Tickets are limited. In addition to this a Rock Night will be held in Cruiser's Bar, Foxford, on Saturday, November 16, from 9pm. For tickets contact Sarah 087 7965520.

Scary Walk

Swinford GAA will host a Scary Walk on Thursday, October 31, a freaky family fun night not to be missed. The walk starts at 6pm at GAA Club House where groups of 30 people will venture into the woods every 15 minutes with a guide. Lots of scares on the night followed by refreshments and traditional Halloween games in Swinford Community Centre. Swinford Tidy Towns sponsorship

Swinford Tidy Towns were delighted to receive sponsorship from First Choice Credit Union. First Choice Credit Union (formally Swinford Credit Union) has been part of the Swinford community for over 35 years and supports local community groups and organisations with sponsorship annually. Swinford Tidy Towns committee have a lot of hanging baskets, planters and flower beds around town which were awash with colour all year. This sponsorship will be of huge help to the committee and will assist with the purchase of equipment and maintain the work that the Tidy Towns committee do around the town for the community. Tidy Towns extend thanks to Shane Melia from First Choice Credit Union for presenting the cheque to Swinford Tidy Towns committee members Douglas Kelly and Joe Mellett at the Swinford Office recently. GAA 50/50 draw

Congratulations to Deirdre Fahey Moran who was the winner of the Swinford GAA draw held on Tuesday, October 15, in Melletts winning €394. Congratulations to Michael Walsh who was the winner of the draw held on Tuesday, October 22, in Eurospar winning €333.

Swinford Golf Club weekly card games have resumed on Thursday nights at 9pm in the clubhouse.

Results of the weekly card game played in Meelick Community Centre on Tuesday, October 22. 1st prize was won by Noreen Geraghty and Eileen Geraghty. 2nd and 3rd shared between Frank Neary, Johnathan Brennan, Margaret Waters, Matt Duggan, Philip Moore, Seamus Conwell, John Gallagher, Michael O’Neill, Terry Maughan, Owen Maughan, Brian McNulty and Mary Higgins. The Turf Shed Killasser are holding a Halloween Fancy Dress Party on Saturday, November 2, at 9pm. Prizes will be given for the scariest and best dressed couple. Invite your friends to come along for a scarily good night.

Killasser Bingo is back at the Turf Shed on Sunday, November 3, and Sunday, December 8, with eight houses, snowball house and €500 jackpot house. First house is at 8pm, and everyone welcome.

CFR Emergency Response Group meeting

Dance competition

The very successful 12th annual Bernie and Tony Towey Perpetual Cup Social Dance Competition took place in the Brusna Inn on Friday, October 11, with The Duets providing the music . The competition saw winners in four separate competitions – the waltz, quickstep, jive and slow waltz and an overall winner being presented the Bernie and Tony Towey Perpetual Cup. The overall winners of the perpetual cup were Kay Slaman and Ronan Kelly who were also the winners of the slow waltz competition for a Perpetual Trophy donated by John Mulkeen.

Congratulations to all winners on the night and to all who supported the competition in any way, to the proprietor of the Brusna Inn for the fantastic venue and for the refreshments provided on the night, to the dancers who took part and to all who attended and made the night so enjoyable. A special thank you to the adjudicator Kay Dillon, who had the hardest job on the night. Thanks also to James Hunt for photography and those who sponsored the silverware Tom Gordon, Kathleen Horan, Gerry Towey and John Mulkeen. A special thank you also to those who donated raffle prizes – Kilmovee Comhaltas, Breege Moran, Martin Walsh and The Brusna Inn.

Bohola

‘Micksey’s Way’ walking trail

The community in Bohola gathered at the weekend for the official opening of a new walkway, named 'Micksey's Way'. The new link path connects Bohola NS to the Durcan Bohola Community Park and is dedicated to the late Micksey Clarke.

Fr. Stephen O'Mahoney blessed the path, which is a wonderful addition to the community's amenities, providing a safe path for local schoolchildren and other users. Guests at the opening celebrations included Minister Dara Calleary and Alan Dillon and Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh. Councillors Neil Cruise and Adrian Forkan also supported the project. Bohola Community Park has extended thanks to the Diocese of Achonry, the Clarke family and to the O'Neill family for generously donating the land to make this section of the project possible.

Candlelight concert

A magical Candlelight Concert with John McNicholl and full band will take place on Saturday, December 14, in Bohola Church, at 8pm. Immerse yourself in the warmth and beauty of live music by candlelight. Don't miss this enchanting evening.

Tickets costing €30 are available from committee members: Fiona Byrne, Alice Rowley, Gemma Jordan, Tom Lavelle, Maria Murphy, Breda Flynn, Tom O’Brien, Paul McNicholas, Esther Walsh, Brendan Clarke and Emma Galligan. Limited seats available so buy early and experience a night of pure musical bliss. All proceeds are towards the continuing development of Durcan Community Park.

Time Change

The clocks have gone back by one hour, so please note that from Saturday, November 2, the Saturday evening Vigil Mass will be at 7pm (in Straide for November) and will remain at that time for the winter months.
