Niamh was studying for her Leaving Cert when her mother, Breege, informed her of the splendid news. Niamh is the daughter of Justin and Breege Feerick and the sister of Dáithí and Seán Feerick, who play underage with Ballintubber.
Niamh, who lives nearby to Ballintubber GAA’s clubhouse in Clogher, was warmly congratulated by her near neighbour, Ronan Mannion, who sold her the winning ticket.
Niamh is a past student of Gaelscoil Raifteirí in Castlebar and Balla Secondary School. She hopes to study pharmacy in college and she is warmly congratulated on her magnificent win.
Caroline Gough was the winner of one of two fabulous consolation prizes when she won a €1,000 voucher for Broderick’s Electrical after her name was pulled from the drum. The other winner was Brid Corley, who won two nights B&B from the Westport Hotel Group.
Pat Barrett, the Cathaoirleach of Ballintubber GAA Club, has extended gracious thanks to all who purchased draw tickets, to the dedicated club personnel who sold the tickets and to the club sponsors and all who made the event a tremendous success.
There was no winner of the jackpot in the latest Ballintubber GAA Lotto draw on Monday week last when the numbers drawn were 4, 12, 31 and 33.

There was a great turn out on the Bank Holiday Monday last week for the annual Ballyglass Sports, held at Michael Keaveney Park, home of Ballyglass FC.
The usual array of events was there once again this year, including sprints, long distance running, high jump, long jump, penalty kicking, tug of war, weight throwing and the ever-popular novelty races. All ages were represented, from the four-year-olds to the grannies (and one grandad). There was a pile-up at the end of the men’s over 35 race, but thankfully everyone left the track in one piece!
The rain stayed away after a light sprinkle early in the day, and the ice-cream man, crepe van and burger van were there to keep everyone’s energy levels up throughout the long day of events.
The organising committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make this year’s Ballyglass Sports a splendid success. Special thanks to Fran Glynn for co-ordinating the team of helpers and for keeping the whole show on the road, to John Boyle for his excellent work as MC, to all who helped with record-keeping, photographs, medals, parking, manning the gate and setting up the activities and to Ballyglass FC for the use of their wonderful facilities. And finally, a huge thank you to all the families from near and far who support this day each year, rain or shine. Well done to all.

The latest Thuar Mhic Éadaigh GAA lotto draw took place on June 1st for a jackpot of €12,200. The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 8 and 28 and there was no jackpot winner. Online consolation prizes went to Molly Mcloughlin and Rebecca Cunningham.

The death occurred recently of Peter Heneghan, Edison Park, Chicago, USA.
Aged 83, Peter was a native of Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady and was the beloved husband of the late Julia (nee Lennon, Drum, Athlone). He is deeply regretted by his family, Bridget (Michael) Mullan, Peter CFD (Rosalie), Andrew (Ann), Maureen (Michael) Hominick and Kathleen (Daniel) Arrecis; grandchildren, Maura, Brendan, Fiona, Michael, Sean, Andrew, Julia, Ryan, Jacklyn, Madden, Hugh, Delia and Lennon and brother of the late Mary, Bridget, Julia, Eileen (Patrick) Casey, Catherine (James) McGing, and Mickey, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends to whom sincere condolences are extended.
Visitation took place on Sunday, June 2nd, at Colonial Funeral Home, 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. His funeral took place on Monday, June 3rd, at St Juliana Church with burial in All Saints Cemetery.

The details of the Killawalla Community Day 2024 on July 7th are as follows.
Gates open from 12.30pm with races at 1.30pm sharp. The usual fun and games are on the programme plus more additions including fun races for parents! Claremorris Bouncy Castles will be in attendance with something for the kids and kids at heart and also a food truck and treats will be provided by Corbett Catering.
The entrance fee is modest at €5 for adult and kids are free. There will be a small charge as usual on novelty events and to cover costs on the bouncy castles. There will be a raffle on the day and music after from 8pm in McEvilly’s with Conor Duffy.

Errew NS Girls’ team are Cumann na mBunscol Division 5 Champions.
Congratulations to the girls on winning the Cumann na mBunscol last week by beating Culmore NS with a comprehensive win.
What an amazing display of football by the Errew girls and such an exciting occasion for the school, parents, grandparents, siblings, neighbours and everyone who came out in support of the Errew team.
Culmore NS was strong opposition but early goals put Errew well in front at half time and they prevailed to the final whistle.
This is the fifth time Errew NS have won a Cumann na mBunscol title. Errew boys won in 1992, 2018 and 2022 and Errew girls won in 2000.
The school and the community are so proud of this young team with players ranging from 3rd to 6th class.
Reaching a final in this competition is always hard to do, winning is such an achievement. It was a great way to end the school year.

Ballyheane Ballintubber Community First Responders provide an important service to the community and they desperately need funding.
The group is calling on any local business, group or individual that can help them out to please get in touch. They require equipment for the group, and they are in planning to install more public access defibrillators at locations locally, which will save lives.
They can only continue the service with the generosity of the local community, so if persons can help, please do so.

Mayo North East and South West Mayo Development Company had the pleasure of recently hosting the Mayo Social Enterprise Network in Balla Resource Centre.
This event brought board members, managers and team from social enterprises throughout Mayo to meet, share ideas and gain useful information.
Sue Baird, Saboc International, gave a talk on changes to employment legislation including changes to employment contracts, sick leave, parental leave, minimum wage and the impending auto-enrolment pension scheme.
Thady Kavanagh provided a talk on public relations - highlighting your social impact as a social enterprise through storytelling and video. Thady is a video producer with lots of experience in making case study films for social change projects and helping them to tell their story. He provided a range of tips to create video content to present the important work done within communities by non-profit organisations.
Thanks have been extended to Balla Resource Centre, Sue Baird, Thady Kavanagh and all who took the time to attend.
The death took place last week of Bernadette (Bernie) Loftus (nee Forde), Aughalilska, Shraheens, Balla.
Bernadette passed away peacefully at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home on June 3rd surrounded by her loving family.
Predeceased by her husband John, sisters Anna May, Teresa, Josie and her brother Laurence, she is deeply regretted by her son John (Aughaliska), daughters Claire Higgins (Ballaghadereen), Margaret Walsh (Barnacarroll), Martina Loftus (Aughailska) and Carmel Golden (Castlebar), sons-in-law Paul, Nicholas and Martin, daughter-in-law Orla, grandchildren Aaron, Rachel, Robert, Conor, Amy, Brendan, Katelyn and Clara and many friends and relatives to whom sincere sympathy is tendered.
Her remains reposed in Straide Community Centre on Thursday, June 6th, from 6pm with removal at 8pm to the Church of St Peter and Paul, Straide. Requiem Mass took place on Friday, June 7th, at 12 noon with the funeral proceeding to Straide Cemetery.

Balla GAA Club lotto jackpot prize stood at €6,700 for the latest draw in the Railway Tavern on Thursday, June 6th.
The numbers drawn the previous week on Thursday, May 30th, in Flukies were 13, 28, 31 and 33. There was no winner of the jackpot.

Clogher
The Tuesday evening walking group resumed for the 2024 season on last Tuesday, June 4th, at 7pm.
This has proved to be a very enjoyable event over the past few years and the organisers are hoping that all the walkers from previous years will return as well as some new Bog Walk enthusiasts.
Please can everyone meet at the Heritage Cottage at 7pm (F12 PF99). Different lengths of walks available. Tea and biscuits provided afterwards. Everyone is welcome.
The results from Clogher Cards on May 31st were: 1st, Mary McDonagh and Breege Blake; 2nd, Martin Moran and Thomas Fitzpatrick.
The last 10 winners were Bridie McDermott and Michael Giblin. The 25 progressive games continue every Friday night at 9pm. Everyone is welcome, experienced and novice players.
The Plant Swap is still in situ at the Heritage Cottage. There various kinds of potted plants there at the moment including tomato and strawberry plants which are free to take away. Visitors can also leave a plant if that suits.
At the Community Hall there is a Book Swap/Take Away with a large numbers of bestsellers, historical novels and reference books available.
The Community Centre is open from Monday to Friday. Please feel free to avail of these facilities.

Mayo Abbey
The Castlebar Pioneer Region summer tour this year is a one-day tour of Connemara. Itinerary to be finalised. The cost is €75 per person (depending on numbers).
Anyone interested is asked to contact their local pioneer centre or one of the regional officers, Pat McDonnel, Mary Jo Barrett or Phyllis Neary. The organisers need to know numbers to make final arrangements.
The Local Link bus departs from Mayo Abbey Centre daily from Tuesday to Saturday to go to Castlebar (Route 792). An additional bus goes to Claremorris every Thursday (Route 791), taking in Knocknakill, Drumady, Cappagh, Cullentragh, Currykirwan, Mayo Abbey, Monard, Brize, Facefield and Gurteenmore. Return services also available.
These services are available to all to use and are free to bus pass holders. Call 094-900 5150 to book.
Mayo Abbey Centre offer a variety of services to the community including meals delivery service, weekly Tuesday social lunch for Active Age, free computer/smartphone support for beginners, printing, photocopying and laminating services, hot desk spaces with fibre broadband connection, facilities available to attend a virtual meeting or interview, wide range of training programmes.
