Local Notes: Meeting is held about NCT centre for Belmullet
Pictured at recent launch of the book, 'Building Carne', were, Fr Kevin Hegerty, who launched the book, and Eamon Mangan, who compiled and created the publication, with Carne Golf Club Captain Ronan Gaughan and Lady Captain Sarah Togher.
Minister of State Alan Dillon TD held a meeting recently with the Minister of State at the Department of Transport Sean Canny TD and officials from his department to discuss the need for an NCT centre for Belmullet town.
It was a productive meeting and was attended by Michael and Mairéad Conroy of Michael Conroy Motors in Belmullet, who are continuing to highlight the need for an NCT Centre in Belmullet.
Erris motorists currently face long waiting lists, substantial travel times, and added costs to access the nearest NCT centres in Ballina or Westport, often involving round trips of up to 150km. This places a significant burden on a region that is home to approximately 15,000 people.
In 2027, the Road Safety Authority will undertake further needs analysis to assess future requirements for NCT services and the potential establishment of new centres as part of any future procurement of the service. The recent engagement marks an important first step in advancing this project and ensuring the challenges faced by Erris motorists are fully recognised.
Iorras Aontaithe is proud to announce that Terry O'Reilly is the Sports Genius 2025, thanks to Platt Reilly and Belbridge Developments.
We think that Terry may have been the only one of the seven billion people on the planet who found the F1 in any way exciting recently. The dullest non-event in the history of non-events. No harm, it was all worth it as Terry secured the €500 prize and the coveted title. Congratulations Terry!
Ciaran Rabbette secures second spot and €150, only four points behind, so close.
Then we had a three way tie for third place. As per the rules it goes back to who had the most ten point scores. Pierse Reilly had eight, David Gallagher had nine but Kian Gallagher gets third place and €50 with ten correct scores. Lando Norris winning €10 for Kian was the most exciting thing that happened in Abu Dhabi.

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Denise Neary, a beloved mother who tragically died unexpectedly. Denise was a devoted single parent to her three children aged 11, 13 and 19, who were her whole world.
This is an unimaginable loss, leaving her children without their primary carer.
The local community is raising funds to help provide stability, care, and security for her children during this incredibly difficult time.
Your support, no matter the size, can make a meaningful difference. Every contribution will help ease the financial burden and allow the family to focus on caring for the children and supporting them through their grief. Please consider donating or sharing this story to help give these children the support they need and deserve.
The fundraiser is online at www.gofundme.com, just search for 'Denise Neary'.
