There are a number of part-time job opportunities available for farmers in the Kiltimagh, Bohola and Midfield areas.
The work involves the caretaking of community facilities, village and countryside enhancement including maintenance of walkways, assistance in the Hospice shop, and with childcare facilities. The vacancies are open through the Rural Social Scheme. Participants on the scheme work nineteen and half hours a week.
The scheme was set up in 2004 as an alternative to the farmers’ dole payment of the time. The idea was to encourage farmers to go out and meet peers, to combat loneliness and depression. Their work would, in the process, benefit communities throughout the country.
Anyone interested is asked to contact the supervisor for the area, Caroline Cotter on 087-2107385 or by calling into the Mayo North East Leader Partnership office on Aiden Street.

A goal four minutes into stoppage time knocked Kiltimagh/Knock United men’s senior team out of the FAI Junior Cup, away to Ballisodare United last week.
Jack O’Connor put KKU ahead in the ninth minute, but Ballisodare then scored three goals without reply, leaving KKU with a tough challenge. But KKU kept fighting and were rewarded when Jack pulled one back four minutes before half time, and then with the referee ready to blow for the break, David Owusu popped in to equalise.
There were no goals in the second half, and the game looked to be headed to extra time, when Ballisodare struck a winner to advance in the competition.
KKU: N Walshe, S Niland, C Walsh, D Duffy, C Rice, B Gallagher, D McNamara, C Caulfield, D Owusu, J O’Connor, E Hosty. Subs: C Langan, A Neves Do Carmo, O Turcu.

Are you thinking of building, extending or renovating your own home? If you are, you might like to attend SelfBuild, the biggest exhibition dedicated to home building, which comes to the GAA Airdome in Bekan, on Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 3rd. The show is aimed at people who wish to have the work done themselves, as opposed to buying a ready-made home. It doesn’t mean that they are expected to physically do the work themselves.
SelfBuild has held huge exhibitions around the country for over 20 years. Venues have included the King’s Hall and the Titanic Centre in Belfast, City West Hotel and Exhibition Centre in Dublin, Punchestown and Millstreet arenas, and at the Galway Racecourse.
Visitors to the exhibition will benefit from the advice of local and national companies, be introduced to new products and processes and will have the opportunity to discuss their own project with experts in a one-to-one setting. Free admission tickets are available online on www.selfbuild.ie.
