The launch of the Annual Castleconnor Vehicle Run which will take place on Sunday, August 17, at 2pm was held recently at Castleconnor Community Centre. All proceeds this year go to Castleconnor Community First Responders Group. The late Mary Judge

The death has taken place of Mary Judge nee Cullinane, Kinnard House, Enniscrone, and formerly of Churchfield, Knock, on August 4 last, peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff at Sonas Ard na Greine Nursing Home, Enniscrone, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Eamonn, her parents James and Julia Cullinane. She was the beloved mother to PJ, Marceline, Ann, Eamonn and Breda. She will be sadly missed by her sons, daughters, sons-in-law Henry and Nick, daughters-in-law Mary and Rowena, grandchildren Aine, Conor, Karen, Brian, Sinead, Niall, Naoise, Travis, Ashton and Olivia, great-grandchildren Siobhan, Kyle, Leighton and Darragh, brothers Harry, Bernard and Seamus, sisters Sr Ann (Celia) and Bridie, in-laws, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Mary reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Wednesday evening, August 6, from 5pm with removal at 7pm to The Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone. Requiem Mass was held on Thursday, August 7, at 11am followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina.

May Mary rest in peace.

The late Eileen Keegan

The death took place of Eileen Keegan nee O’Neill, Frankford Close, Enniscrone, and formerly of Mitchell’s Terrace, Athlone, peacefully, at Northwest Hospice, Sligo. Eileen will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, beloved dogs Effy and Lara, relatives and friends.

Eileen’s funeral arrived to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone, on Saturday, August 9, for 11am requiem Mass, followed by private cremation at McGowan’s Crematorium, Collooney, Co Sligo. May Eileen rest in peace.

Enniscrone Golf Club

Enniscrone Golf Club congratulate their Jimmy Bruen team captained by Donal McLoughlin on reaching the Connacht final. Donal and his vice-captain Sean have put a huge effort in and relied on a strong panel of players to reach this stage.

The team had a fantastic win against Westport in tough conditions. Archie McMahon and tom Horkan got the first point on the board with their convincing 3&2 victory away. Robert Jacob and Daniel Duffy fell just short losing out on 18 in Westport. Joe Forde and Adrian Rausenberger were 4 down through 10 holes but kept their heads up, kept fighting and brought their game to all square after 18 which secured a crucial half point. The deciding game fell on Brian Casey and Mark McMahon. The combination of experience and youth were one down with two holes to play found themselves all square on the 18th tee box and buried the 18th hole to win their match and see Donal’s team through to the Connacht final.

They will now play Galway Bay Golf Club in the Connacht final on August 23, in Galway Bay Golf Club with 1.30pm tee time.

Walking Soccer

Walking soccer is held every Wednesday from 7.30 to 8.30pm at Michael McGowan Park, Enniscrone. It is a non-contact game and is open to men and women. All aged 18+ are welcome. No experience is necessary.

Social Dancing in the Old Church

The August social dancing dates in the Old Church, Enniscrone are as follows; dance classes with Frank from 8-9pm and the social dancing from 9-11pm, where they will be waltzes, jives, foxtrots, quickstep and more. It is a fun way to get your rhythm back on track and all levels are welcome. No partners are required. The entry is only €10 with refreshments and door prizes on the night. Sean Brennan will take to the stage on Friday, August 15; Pat and Lady T on Friday, August 22 and Sean Corrigan on Friday, August 29. Come along and bring your friends as the more the merrier.

EGM

Kilglass Community Council CLG will hold an extraordinary general meeting on Friday, August 15 at 8pm in Kilglass Digital Hub. Proposed amendments to the constitution will be presented and discussed. Members of the community are welcome to attend.

Tireragh Community Support Ltd are having their annual general meeting on Tuesday, August 26, at 12 noon in The Coach House, Kilglass. All are welcome to attend.

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA roundup

The intermediate footballers got their championship campaign off to a winning start on Friday, August 1, with a hard fought 1-16 to 1-10 win over St Farnan’s. The lads had a bye last weekend and return to action on August 24 against St Pat’s in Corballa.

It was the turn of the Junior B footballers last weekend and they had an away fixture against Coolera/Strandhill which was played in Ransboro.

The minors exited the championship after losing out to St Pats/Owenmore Gaels in the semi-finals of the championship shield competition. The club extend thanks to all the players, management, and parents for their efforts. Many of this group will return to action shortly for the U17 championship in the coming weeks.

The U15s played St Molaise Gaels in the semi-final of the shield competition yesterday evening Monday, August 11, in Quigabar.

The U13s continued their good form with a 5-13 to 5-8 win over St John’s at Quigabar. Next up was an away fixture against Ballymote/Bunninadden which was held on Friday last at 7pm Enniscrone Kilglass GAA club extend thanks to everyone who made the Cul Camp such a great success at Quigabar last week, especially the coaches, Lisa Lynott and Kenny Roberts for their generosity in providing fruit and water and to Oliver Bourke, PJ Kavanagh, Liam Cawley, Mixie Jacobn, Maurice Sweeney, Declan Rouse and Michael Gordon for their help in ensuring the smooth arrival and departure of traffic in the morning and afternoon. Approximately 170 boys and girls were in attendance.

Work has now taken place at Quigabar with the car part resurfaced at either end of the ground.

The club extends every good wish to all of the Sligo management teams appointed last week. In particular, best of luck to Enniscrone Kilglass Club Coach, Con O’Meara, who will form part of the senior football management team as head coach.

Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the Eoghan Rua ladies weekly lotto which was held on August 3 last were 3, 6, 15 and 22. There was no jackpot winner and the €30 consolation prizewinners were Helen Culkin, Lauren Grier, John and Tina Lavelle, Michael and Gerladine McDonnell, and Ashling and Gary Cawley. The jackpot in the draw which was held on August 10, was €8400.

Bottle and Can Re-turn bins

Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC have installed two new bottles and can return bins at the grounds, kindly provided by the DRS scheme. With the new season coming and with FAI and Sligo Rovers camps not far away, the club are asking all patrons to use these yellow bins for recyclable items such as plastic bottles and tin cans, as it will help the environment and help the club.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on August 3, was 1, 16 and 39. There was no jackpot winner. The €25 prizewinners were Ann Shanahan, Margaret Tuffy, Emily Sweeney and Patricia Tuffy. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, August 10, in McNulty’s Bar was €6200.

Kilglass House Walled Garden and Woodland

A celebration of the built and natural heritage of Kilglass House, Walled Garden and Woodland will take place on Saturday, August 23, from 1-3pm with two workshops. One is on built heritage/history of Kilglass House and the other on biodiversity in walled garden and woodland. Bring a picnic and refreshments to enjoy in the beautiful walled garden and woodland. They will have fresh fruit and vegetables available on the day to be picked.

Girls Golf

The final three dates of the girls golf programme will be held on Wednesday, August 13, Thursday, August 14 and Saturday, August 16, from 9.30 to 10.30am. The cost is €20 per session or €55 for 3 sessions. Each girls will receive an official Girls Golf membership kit.

Sarah Helly, LPGA Class A teaching professional has a wealth of knowledge after playing professional golf in America and it is the very first time a programme like this has come to Ireland for all girls aged 7-16 years old who would like to get involved with golf. Market Day

Market Day is held every Saturday in the Old Church, Enniscrone from 11am to 3pm, with a huge selection of goods on offer. There will be tea, coffee and freshly baked goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, hand crafted items, jewellery and lots more on offer.

Castleconnor

Castleconnor Vehicle Run 

The annual Castleconnor Vehicle Run takes place this year on Sunday, August 17, at 2pm starting at the Community Centre (F26 P7D9) at 2pm. Registration from 12pm. The fee is €20 per vehicle and all proceeds this year go to Castleconnor First Responders Group which serves the areas of Castleconnor, Enniscrone, Kilglass, Culleens and further afield. Please come out and support this worthy cause.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA Club weekly lotto which was held on August 2 last were 7, 8, 21 and 31. There was no winner of the €13000 jackpot. Congratulations to Roger Cawley who matched three numbers and won €100 and to Catherine Gilroy who was the winner of the lucky dip. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Saturday, August 9, was €13,100.

Castleconor Amateur Dramatic Society

At the 2025 annual general meeting the committee elected for the forthcoming year are as follows: chairperson Frank Barrett; secretary Anna Marie Gilmartin; treasurer Marie Somerville; assistant treasurer John Bourke; joint PR team Enda Geoghegan and Tom Tuffy; community liaison officers Frank Barrett and Enda Geoghegan.

There will be a meeting next week to read through a few one-acts to select two for the night of the one acts for the winter presentation. The society will also be holding their three act for spring. So, keep an eye out for updates and if you would like to get involved, either on stage, back stage or behind the scenes, come along to the next meeting.
