This week's Ballaghaderreen GAA 50/50 draw was held in Durkin's Bar, The Square, on Sunday, December 17. The jackpot of €802 was won by Tommy Egan, Culliagh, Kilmovee and the seller was Solan's Bar. Weekly tickets are on sale in shops and businesses throughout the town. An annual 50/50 ticket, giving entry into every draw in the year is available from committee members for €90. Weekly tickets can also be purchased online through the Ballaghaderreen GAA Facebook page. The calendar made by Community Art Group Ballaghaderreen in aid of the Irish Cancer Society is still for sale. Full of images with hearts that lift the spirit, it is a great gift for Christmas or any other occasion. The Soccer Club 50/50 weekly draw took place on Tuesday, December 19, at the Community Park Clubhouse. The jackpot of €310 was won by Sean Winstanley and it was a club sale. The next draw takes place on Wednesday, December 27, at Community Park Clubhouse. Bonus draw winners of annual tickets were Ellen and Eva; Joanne Regan and Dave Dwyer. The death took place of Mary Duffy, London and formerly of Clooncara, Kilmovee, on December 13, peacefully surrounded by her family in Oakwood Nursing Home, Ballaghaderreen. Mary was pre-deceased by parents Andrew and Mary, sisters Brigid and Eileen, brothers Andrew and Patrick and her nephew Patrick, and is sadly missed and remembered by her sister Katie (Conway), Ballyglass Kilmovee, brother Michael, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Mary reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Friday, December 15, followed by removal to The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kilmovee, arriving at 7.30pm. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Saturday, December 16, at 11am, with the funeral proceeding to Naomh Mobhí Cemetery. May Mary rest in peace as sincere sympathy is extended to all bereaved by her passing.

The death took place at Cara, Pearse Road, Sligo, on December 8, after a brief illness of Leta Ann (Carmel) Leydon, formerly of Cuilmore, Gurteen. One of a family of fourteen she was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Patrick, her sisters Loretta, Philomena and Pauline, and brothers Cyril, Eamon, Padraic and Michael. She will be sadly missed by all her friends and carers in Cara and her neighbours and friends in her native area in Gurteen.
Her remains reposed at O'Dowd's Funeral Home, Gurteen, on Monday evening, December 11, and after Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday, which was celebrated by Fr Joe Caulfield PP, assisted by Fr Pat Lombard and Fr Stephen Walsh, St Anne's Sligo and Fr John Carroll, Sligo, burial took place in Carrentemple Cemetery. Carmel is survived by her sisters Gena, Beatie, Mary, Patricia and Geraldine and brother John Joe, nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.
The death took place recently of Seamus McDonagh, Manchester, and formerly of Kilfree, Gurteen, at Norlands Nursing Home, Manchester. He was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Nora, Kilfree, and his sister Marian Kirrane, New York. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Packie Joe and Maureen, Kilfree and his sister Kathleen Carney. Sincere sympathy is extended to them and to his family and many friends. His funeral will take place in Manchester on December 21 and a memorial Mass will be held at a future date in St Patrick's Church, Gurteen. May he rest in peace.
The death took place on December 14 at Drumderrig Nursing Home, Boyle, of Betty Courtney, Gurteen View, Gurteen, and O'Connell Gardens, Sandymount, Dublin. Friendly and good humoured she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick and sons Robert and Dermot. She is survived by her daughter Louise and son-in-law Noel, Kilfree, Gurteen, by her sister Mona, grandchildren, extended family and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.
The Eastern Harps 50/50 draw on Monday night with a jackpot of €753 was won by Grainne Cryan, Ballinafad. A €200 voucher for the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, was won by Francis Hannon, Ballinafad. Two hampers were won by Kerrie Scanlon and Anita McDermottroe and Louise and Noel Halligan, Kilfree, won a €50 voucher for the Copper Still.
Next week’s draw will be held on Wednesday, December 27, and there will be five extra prizes for the draw. The club is very appreciative of all the support.
The jackpot was not won this week and the numbers drawn were 02, 11, 13 and 28. Aishling Phillips, Doon, won the €50, and next week’s draw will be for a jackpot of €7100.
