Kilmaine GAA 7-a-side National School tournament took place on Saturday, June 15 for the John McHale cup, the Eileen Walsh cup and the Ernestine Walsh Shield.

Ballinrobe Community Games

The Ballinrobe Community Games were held at the Lake District Athletics Track, The Green, Ballinrobe, on Monday, May 6. It was certainly a jam-packed event, with every one of the young athletes giving it 100 per-cent as they vied for the precious medals. There were some tremendous displays on the day and every one of the competitors can be proud of their gallant efforts on the day.

Overall, a great day was had by all and the Ballinrobe Community Games Committee thank all the athletes, volunteers and supporters for making it such a fun day. Also a big thank you must also go to the Lake District Athletics Club, for the use of their track and facilities.

Aidan Golden Memorial Cup

The Aidan Golden Memorial Cup will take place in The Green, on Saturday, July 20, at 12 noon. This is a tag rugby event and registration for teams is now open.

Those wishing to register teams can do so via the Ballinrobe Rugby Club App in the events section. The competition is open to teams of 10 and the cost to take part is €100 per-team. Once registered, the team will be contacted by the club. There will be a barbeque on the day (kindly sponsored by Diggers Foods) and more events for the day will be announced over the coming days. This has proven to be a very enjoyable event and all monies raised from this year’s competition will go to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) Ireland. This is a very important charity and your support for this event would be appreciated.

Bingo

Bingo takes place every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the Parish Centre (also via-Zoom), Ballinrobe. All house prizes in the second half of this weekly game are €30, with the jackpot prize of €210 on 56 calls. Books are available to purchase during the week in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. Those interested in playing via-Zoom and who wish to obtain the link are asked to contact 087 4111343. Maple Youth Centre

If you are a secondary school student or attend Youth Reach Ballinrobe, why not pay a visit to the Maple Youth Centre, Bowgate Street, Ballinrobe, to see their planned activities for teenagers/youths over the summer months. Ballinrobe Golf Club

The results of the President’s (Tom Hughes) mixed scramble competition which was held on Thursday, June 20, are as follows: 1st, Billy McGrath, Gerard Hanley, Mary Farragher, and Catherine Burke (27.6); 2nd, Gerry O’Malley, Peter Staunton, Angela Murphy, and Ciara Maher (28.1); 3rd, Alan Sammon, Jim McGovern , Phyllis Loftus, and Rita Kearney (28.1); 4th, Jim Sheridan, Cian Touhy, Antoinette O’Connor, and Bridget Hynes (28.9); 5th, Ciaran Ferriter, JJ Higgins, Pat McDermott, and Lisa Biggins (30.1). Shrule and District Vintage Club

The Shrule and District Vintage Club will hold their annual Vintage Show which includes a monster auto jumble and family fun day on Sunday, July 14, in Glencorrib.

Vintage cars, tractors, commercials, stationary engines and farm machinery will be on display, whilst there will also be plenty of activities for children, with free bouncy castles and amusements. There will also be vintage trucks on display.

Music will be provided on the day and there will be prizes on offer for the winners of the waltz/jive competition. Also, on what promises to be an action occasion, a dog show will take place. Yoga classes

Morning and evening summer pop-up yoga classes take place in Momentum Performance Gym, Church Lane, Ballinrobe. These classes are being organised by Ailbhe Duddy and those wishing to book their place are asked to please contact 089 2301456.

Free Blood Pressure check

Free blood pressure checks organised by Croí will take place in the Ballinrobe Library, on Wednesday, July 3, from 11am to 3pm. Those attending can get their heart health questions answered, and can also find out details on how to avail of a loan of a blood pressure monitor from selected libraries in Mayo.

Water Safety course

A Mayo Water Safety course run in conjunction with Water Safety Ireland, will take place at Ballinchalla Pier, Clonbur Road, Ballinrobe, from Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26. The daily classes commence at 10am and each class lasts for 30 minutes. The cost to take part in this course is €30 per-person and registration can be completed before the beginning of the first class on July 22.

This course caters for beginners, improvers, advanced, safety, rescues and BLS (skills test). All ages are welcome. For further details and information you are asked to contact James at 087 2040237.

Garrymore GAA Club lotto draw

There was no winner of the €16,800 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Garrymore, on Sunday, June 23. The numbers drawn were 5, 19, 21 and 31.

The €50 winners were Laura Cummins, Garrymore, Peadar Higgins, Ballycushion, and Catherine McHugh, Carrowsteelaun.

Ballinrobe GAA Club lotto draw 

There was no winner of the €23,600 lotto jackpot which was held on Monday week last. The numbers drawn were 2, 13, 20 and 32. The €25 winners were Deirdre Butler, and Evan O’Reilly.

 Weekly activities

Islandeady GAA/LGFA Underage Academy training takes place every Saturday morning from 9:30am –10:30am for boys and girls from U6 – U12. Contact Tanya on 087 9014 363.

Rambling House is held every 2nd Tuesday night at 7.30pm in the Community Centre.

The Ladies Club meet every Tuesday at 8pm in the Community Centre.

Wednesday get-together takes place every Wednesday in the community centre from 11.30am and all are welcome.

‘Celebrating Friendships’

Islandeady Foróige 50th Anniversary Book detailing the origin of the club and depicting all the changes in the club and country life down through the years is full of stories and pictures from the past 50 years which many people can recognise and identify with. The book is still available in local bookshops in Westport and Castlebar and Archers in Islandeady and Corrigans Ballintubber or you can email foroigeislandeady@gmail.com The cost of the book is €20 and all proceeds are in aid of the new community facilities centre.

Fitness and Pilates

A 45 minute fitness class with Lisa continues on Thursday evenings in Islandeady Community Centre with a fat burning workout at 6.15pm and a slow relaxed Pilates at 7.15pm.

Cemetery Mass

Glenisland Cemetery Mass will take place at 7pm on Saturday, August 3, and Islandeady Cemetery Mass will take place at 11am on Sunday, August 4.

Islandeady Community Centre development

Cake Sale

Islandeady Community Council will be holding a cake sale in St. Aidan’s on Sunday, July 7, immediately after Mass. Homemade produce will be on sale. Fr Jim Walsh to retire

Fr. Jim Walsh PP of Kilmeena Parish retires soon. Weekend Masses in Kilmeena and Fahy will now be shared by the priests from Newport, Islandeady and Westport. Mass times in Fahy will be 7pm each Friday at 9.30am every Sunday in Kilmeena. Thanks to the priests for their support providing weekend cover. Fr. Jim is wished well in his retirement.
