Kilmovee

The late Una Caulfield nee Duffy

The death took place of Una Caulfield, Carralackey, Kilmovee in her 93rd year peacefully surrounded by her family in the Ave Maria Nursing Home, Tooreen, Ballyhaunis, on November 9. Una was predeceased by her husband Peter in the 1980s and later by her son Joe in 2013.

Una was born on March 21 1932, and because of this through no fault of her own witnessed an Ireland of poverty, as did many of her contemporaries. Life was tough for Una in her early years living through war times and the blizzard of 1947, and the difficult living conditions of the 1950s and into the 1960s rearing her family without all the mod cons of the modern day and the life of drudgery that was commonplace back then. Una got on with life and could always see the brighter side of life and dealing with tough situations was very much the order of the day. Many of the husbands worked in the UK due to no work being available in Ireland. Una was a very hard worker, both in the house and on the farm and tragedy struck with the death of her husband Peter in the 1980s and again in 2013 with the death of her son Joe. The practice of her faith and prayer were very important to her, and as she aged and her family grew up she enjoyed life.

She was a regular at bingo in a few different venues, and she was a member of the local Active Age/Thursday Club and she socialised quite a lot and she became very popular in the locality. She was very highly respected and she was mother of local county councillor John Caulfield. Una was above all humble, kind, helpful, and honest, she loved chatting, and mixing with people. In short a very popular lady loved by all. Her funeral was huge and representative of people from all walks of life and bore ample testament as to her popularity.

Una reposed in the Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Monday, November 11, followed by removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kilmovee. Mass of the Resurrection was held on Tuesday, November 12, at 11am, followed by interment in Naomh Mobhi Cemetery.

Una is survived by her daughters Mary Mannion (Tubbercurry), Kathleen McNamara (Kilmovee), Rosie Kilkenny (Kilkelly), Bridie Morley, (Ballyhaunis) and her son John (Kilkelly), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May Una rest in peace as deepest sympathy is extended to all who mourn her passing.

The late James Casey

The death took place of James Casey, London and Aughalustia, Ballaghaderreen, on November 26, peacefully surrounded by his family. James was predeceased by his father Larry and is survived by his mother Jane, brothers Michael, Laurence and Oliver, sisters Fiona, Anne and Rachel. He will be sadly missed and remembered by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
