Local Notes: Kilglass Enniscrone Utd U10s secured a 3-2 victory over Benbulben FC.

Well done to the Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC U10 boys who secured a 3-2 victory over Benbulben FC in Cleveragh last week. Kai Rafter, Leon Howley and Sean O'Neill were the goal scorers on the day.
The death took place of Edward (Ned) Kilcullen, Boat Port Lodge, Enniscrone, on Sunday, February 9, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Ned is predeceased by his adored wife Maura, his parents Ned and Catherine Kilcullen, his sisters Bridie Donagher and Mary Flynn, brothers-in-law Gerry Donagher and Gerry Flynn, sister-in-law Bridie Kilcullebn and son-in-law Mick Hanly.
He will be sadly missed by his family Edward, Mary, Anna, Anthony, Bryan, Johnny, Mikey and Bos, by his grandchildren Cain, Jenna, Jane, Ted, Luke, Jack, Katie, Molly, Emma, Michael, Lillie, Ben, Heidi, Lucy, Keeli and Maisie, great grandchildren Finn, Indie, Stevie and Alexander, brother Anthony and sister Kay Tracey (Ballinrobe), brother-in-law Tom Tracey, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Ned reposed at his residence on Tuesday evening, February 11 from 4 to 8pm and his funeral arrived to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone, on Wednesday, February 12, for Requiem Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass. May Ned rest in peace.
Enniscrone Show remember Edward Kilcullen who died last week. ‘Our hearts are deeply saddened by the loss of our Show President Mr Edward Kilcullen PC. He was instrumental in the Show’s revival in 1990, and continued to be a beacon of inspiration to the committee since. In fact as a boy back in 1939 he entered vegetables in the very first show in Enniscrone and served on the committee for many years before becoming President in 2015. His unwavering support and mentorship to the committee in Castleconnor over the past eight years have left an indelible mark on all of us’, said a spokesperson.

The death took place of Margaret O’Connor nee Keenan, Enniscrone and Emyvale, Monaghan, on Friday, February 7, peacefully in the wonderful care of the nurses, doctors and staff of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Castlebar, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was predeceased by her sister Mary McKenna, her brother Sean Keenan and his wife Kathleen. She was the beloved wife of David O’Connor, devoted mother to her children David and Dawn and loving Mar Mar to her granddaughter Ella Mae. Margaret will also be sadly missed by her sisters Teasie McKenna (Brackagh) and Eileen McVeigh (Enniscrone) and all the O’Connor and Keenan families.
Margaret’s remains reposed at Our Lady Assumed into Heaven Church, Enniscrone, on Sunday, February 9 from 3pm followed by Mass at 4pm. Her remains left McMahon’s Funeral Home, Emyvale, Co Monaghan on Monday, February 10 for requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Corracrine, Emyvale. Her burial took place afterwards in the Keenan family plot in the adjoining cemetery. May Margaret rest in peace.

The crib donations in both Enniscrone and Kilglass churches were donated to North West Hospice and they extend thanks for your generosity. The amount collected in Kilglass was €253.32 and Enniscrone church €465.86.
Tickets are flying out the door for the monster raffle, which will be held on February 23 at 8.30pm. The raffle is being held in conjunction with Colaiste Iascaigh in aid of the Easkey Community Pitch and Playground Development. Tickets cost €10 each or 3 for €20.

The year will be wrapping up with the St Stephen’s Day Family Fun Run. This is a lovely, relaxed event on Enniscrone beach suitable for all ages and abilities. Not only will you be running for fun, but you will also be raising money for a local charity, making it a meaningful way to end the year.

The numbers drawn in the weekly Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto held on February 10, were 5, 9, 13 and 16. €30 consolation prizes went to Pat Connaughton, Barry O’Donnell, Damien and Christina Boland, Aidan Mullen and David Caffrey. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on February 17, was €18,900.

The winner will not only receive the gorgeous tiara, Enniscrone Show title and be entered into the Sligo Rose of Tralee selection Sligo Rose Centre but will also win a generous cash prize of €500 on the night. There is no entry fee.

The sponsor would simply be there to support you and of course kindly assist you in getting ready with regards to hair/makeup for the event. You will in turn support and promote them/their business.

Once again Castleconnor Handball Club was victorious on Sunday, February 9 in Collooney Handball Club when Calvin Foody and Rory McHale won the Boys U13 Connaught A championship 40*20 final in style. The lads beat a formidable pair from Mayo, Conor Melvin and Eoghan Towey from the Bofield Handball Club. They won out in two straight games which were very tight and tough, 15-10 and 15-12. They both served really well and put the Mayo lads under constant pressure.
Cian Corcoran also represented Castleconnor Handball Club and county in the U12A boys singles. His game took place in the Annaduff Handball Club in Leitrim on Saturday, February 8. Cian had a very tough task of playing against the number one U12 All-Ireland singles player from Galway, Cillian O’Neachtain. This was a very competitive and skilful game of handball. Cillian went on to win the boys U12 singles and was also part of the boys U12s doubles team to take the Connaught titles.
On Sunday, February 9, Castleconnor Handball Club hosted the 32nd Gerard Jones Memorial Handball tournament. The games commenced at 10am and ran until 7pm. Cup winners were Alan Gilmartin and Jimmy Sheridan; runners-up were Darragh Sweeney and Mick Corley; Plate winners were Darragh Bourke and TJ Foody, while runners up were Wayne Devine and Brian Donegan.
The club extend thanks to all who helped organise the day in any way, to Bofield Handball Club who support the event every year and sponsor Gerry Curley, Office Pro.
The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA weekly lotto which was held on Saturday, February 8, were 3, 13, 25 and 29. There was no jackpot winner. Match 3 winner of €100 was Dervilla and Ultan McGranaghan and the lucky dip winner of €50 was Anthony and Carmel Reape. The jackpot in the latest draw, which was held on Saturday, February 15, was €10,600.
Castleconnor GAA membership for 2025 is now due for renewal and is available through the ‘Foireann’ central GAA system at https://www.foireann.ie. All players and coaches must be registered members before they train or play. Anyone who wishes to use the club gym must complete their registration and membership to gain access. This is important for insurance and safety purposes to protect members.
The Player Injury Scheme runs from January 1 to December 31. The club look forward to the season ahead and would love to see new and returning players and members join the club.
