Good start to 'Stolen Child' journey

Clann Machua Drama Group got off to the perfect start on the All Ireland Festival circuit in their first appearance in Castleblayney on Sunday night, March 10, when they won the Confined Section with their play Stolen Child. If that were not enough for a first night, they added two more awards when Ethan Jordan picked up Best Male Actor award and Adrian Lavin added another for ‘Imagination’ the Most Imaginative Moment in theatre.

It was then straight on the Tubbercurry the following night where Stolen Child was awarded third place and Ethan Henry best supporting actor as Mick Tracy.

They took their play to the Linenhall Theatre in Castlebar last Thursday night and then on the long trip to the West Cork festival on Saturday night.

They will stage Stolen Child at the Claregalway festival this Thursday, March 21, at Claremorris on Thursday 28, and at Glenamaddy festival on Sunday next, March 24. The cast, their director Seamus Corry, and stage crew are wished all the best and lots more awards on their travels after which they will be due a well-earned rest!

Youthreach creation in Dublin finals

Youthreach Kiltimagh Shines Bright in Junk Kouture Regional Finals securing a place in the live Dublin City Finals which will be held in May in Dublin with their design 'Earthly Elegance'. Inspired by the theme of Positive Mental Health, Grounding and Biodiversity. 'Earthly Elegance' is a testament to the profound connection between humanity and nature.

Led by Geraldine Doherty the team members - models Amanda Beca, Rianna Prendergast and Gabriele Bacyte - have poured their hearts and souls into crafting a masterpiece that speaks volumes about staying rooted amidst life's challenges. At its core 'Earthly Elegance' is more than just a fashion statement – it's a celebration of resilience, strength, and the power of nature to heal. In a world where mental health issues are increasingly prevalent, this creation serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of nurturing our well-being and finding solace in the embrace of nature. The Junk Kouture Finals, inspiring us all to embrace the beauty of the natural world and a sense of grounding in our lives.

Jackpot winner

Congrats to Tanya Roche who won the GAA Club’s 50/50 jackpot of €640 at the draw held in Ryan’s Bar on Saturday night, March 9. 

All-Ireland win

Kiltimagh Knock United's Ava Mitchell was a member of the Mayo U14 team who were crowned national SFAI Inter-League Shield champions after a 2-1 win (aet) in the final played in Limerick. Congratulations Ava - another All-Ireland medal in the bag. Ava is a member of KK's U17 and U15 teams.

Clothes collection

Kiltimagh Knock Utd's fundraising clothing collection returns this Easter. You are asked to donate reusable and clean old and pre-loved clothes - all women's, men's and children's clothing, handbags, belts, all paired shoes, also curtains, bedlinen, towels, blankets and soft toys. No pillows or duvets.

The collection days are Saturday, March 30, from 11am to 1 pm and bank holiday Monday, April from 11am to 1pm, at the Kiltimagh Knock United clubhouse, CMS Park, Cloonlee, Knock (F12 HF61). All support appreciated as the club continues to raise funds for its new pitch and lighting.

Bridge

The results of the weekly Bridge game held in the Park Hotel, Kiltimagh, on Tuesday night, March 12, were 1st Ray Nally and Tom Grogan, 2nd Thomas McNicholas and Cait McTigue, 3rd Marita Ryan and Maeve Duffy, 4th Robert Healy and Frances Healy, 5th Hilary McCrohan and Betty Solan, 6th Mick Dolan and Patrick Keary, 7th Maureen Carney and Claire Cunniffe, 8th Geraldine Forde and Jerome. Play starts every Tuesday at 7.45pm.

Enterprise winners

Congratulations to St. Louis Community School students Owen Monaghan and Odhran Freeman who won first place in the intermediate category of the Mayo Enterprise Awards, which took place in Ballina. Their business - Owen’s Landscaping - is now through to the All-Ireland final of the competition in Mullingar this May. Well done to all the other student groups on their presentations and thank you to their teachers Ms Larkin and Mr Gallagher.

Poker league

Twenty one players competed in Round 8 of the Kitimagh Poker League in Teach O’Hora on Wednesday night last and the prizewinners were 1 Tiernan Burke, 2 Gerry Groarke, 3 Derry O’Sullivan, 4 Kieran McGee. The other finalists were; 5 Paul Walsh, 6 Nicky Cunnane, 7 Pat Boyle, 8 Mossie O’Connell, 9 Julian Keane. Isaac Boyle stays top of the league table with 149 points, followed by Gerry Groarke on 122 and Pat Boyle on 119. The rest of the top twelves is Tiernan Burke 115, Mossie O’Connell 109, AN Other 106, Bart Furtak 106, Keith Lydon 103, Paul Walsh 97, Michael Sheridan 92, AN Other 88, and in joint twelfth, Nicky Cunnane and Michael Higgins, both on 85.

The league runs for fifteen weeks with a tournament in Teach O’Hora every Wednesday night at 8pm. Entry is €20 with one optional rebuy and late reg until 9.30pm. €5 from each entry and rebuy goes towards the league final prize pool and the rest is paid out each night.

Cards

Francis McNicholas and Danny Doherty were the winners of the top prize at the 25 Drive held in the Parish Centre, Kiltimagh, on March 7. Second and third prizes were shared by Flor Higgins and John Keady and Jack Ryan and Ciaran McDonnell. Best of last 10 Kathleen Gill and John Walsh, spot prize Seamus Larkin and Manus Kilcoyne and winners in the raffle were Manus Kilcoyne, Tom Conroy and Michael Carney.

Mayo Minor League

Kiltimagh minors had a runaway win over Claremorris last week in Division 1 of the Mayo Minor League with the result ending 4-15 to 0-4.

Darkness into Light Walk

Kiltimagh GAA are proud to team up with Kiltimagh Darkness into Light 2024 in support of Pieta House. Kiltimagh DIL Group are delighted to host its first ever official organised walk this year and Kiltimagh GAA are encouraging all their members to get involved.

Collection

Gurteen

The late Margaret (Peggy) Dickinson

The death took place on March 2 of Margaret (Peggy) Dickinson nee Donnelly, Toomevara, Co Tipperary - mother of Janet Mealing, Mullaghroe, Gurteen, grandmother of Jessica Coleman, Gurteen. Sincere sympathy is extended to Janet and to Jessica and Damien and daughters Brooke and Silver and to all her relations and friends. May she rest in peace.

The late Maria Allen

The death took place on March 2 at her residence of Maria Allen, Knocknaskeagh, Gurteen, and formerly of Southgate, London. News of her untimely passing at fifty one years after a short illness was received with great sorrow and sadness in Gurteen community and beyond. Her remains reposed in O'Dowd's Funeral Home on Thursday evening last and were removed to St Patrick's Church for Mass of the Resurrection on Friday celebrated by Fr Joe Caulfield and Fr Martin Henry, St Nathy's College, Ballaghaderreen. Cremation took place at Lakelands Crematorium afterwards.

The large crowds of people who attended the ceremonies were testament to the high regard Maria was held in. The were guards of honour on Thursday evening with many local people and students from St Nathy's College on the Friday.

Hearftelt sympathy is extended to her husband Paul, daughters Chloe, Kirsty and Melissa, her parents Mary and Tim Lyons, brother Daniel and family, her uncle Ambrose and family, Paul's mother Bridie, his brother Eddie and family, and all her many cousins, relations and friends, May she rest in eternal peace.

The late Sheila Corcoran

The death took place on February 29 of Sheila Corcoran (nee Madden), Oranmore, Co Galway. Sympathy is extended to her husband Benny, daughters Rosemary and Ellen and their families and to all the Corcoran families in Seefin and Culfadda area. May she rest in peace.
